How does one know how long to extend the blend coverage from the repaired substrate?

Hi Mick lovely job on the finish mate it came out looking mint. I've seen some people lay their drop/effect coat after last coat is flashed off but you do it while it's still wet, as you know I use a solvent basecoat scheme and I find that if I let the last coat flash then do my drop coat it feels dry but doing it while wet it feels so much smoother but I've always been told to let solvent base flash before the drop coat, does it really matter which way I do it? Sorry for the long comment but I'm just a hobby painter wanting to learn and do it properly🤔🙏👍John UK.

Either not all waterborne systems are the same or you have your own way of doing it. I know people who spray Sherwin 9k and they almost have to dead stop each pass to blend or it will send big rocks everywhere. I hear envirobase is the same. Either way very nice work as always. Wish I could slam it on like that

Not all waterborne is the same. Axalta is very thick and has a “clay” like binder which allows to be slammed on the way I do. Also the wetbed I spray before my basecoat helps prevent any sand piling you are mentioning. I only flick the way I do with this system. I don’t spray this way with any other system. Since this paint is so thick It halos easily and is better to be blended out this way. I used to spray sikkens autowave which is essentially the same as envirobase. Great system. Takes multiple coats to cover like most other system. You should tack between each coat to avoid any sand piling.

It’s not completely thick like a clay. But it is thick. When the rep explained it to me he said there is a type of clay in the binder which allows the basecoat to set on the panel without running. After being spray on very heavily.

For a new bumper that is primed I would do a coat of sealer first. Then basecoat. Then clearcoat.

You can blend the fenders if you want to. But if you have a good color match you don’t have to. When we do bumper replacements we don’t blend the fender unless there is damage.

Still have a few videos pre recorded that I didn’t mention my setup. I will start saying it in my new videos. But there will still be a few coming that don’t mention it. I can put it in description for now though.

Around 25 or so. I don’t use a regulator so I’m not sure exactly. I’m getting one though so I can show what I spray at.
