firstly - his voice. like wow. shit hits deep man. I truly have no words other than that lol. also I'm in love with J like what can I say, she's an artiste and inspired me to get my ears pierced four times so I could do her triple hoops thing. I can see why ppl ship D and J together as well like they're giving *best friends question mark question mark* energy at points
secondly - the plot of the video bc y'all know I love a *storyline*
I wanted to pick a song that's like, worthy of this show, and was released around the same time. this band isn't even on spotify or anything which is a shocker but I feel like it has bittersweet vibes...?
I wanted to try and capture that 'first crush' feeling that D has in most of the series - the forbidden element of it bc its her best friends older brother but also that brutal and obvious fact that it would NEVER work (at least not during the series)
I'd like to think that when D and J move to Boston they'll still see T around and maybe they could try it out later down the line, but that's just my HC. I think he's a really sweet guy in the series and isn't trying to hurt her or anything, just knows that he's not really good for her and also lets face it is a bit of a mess (hello MONIQUE)
okay anyway back to the show itself, bc if you haven't seen it none of the above will make any sense to you LMAO
its as old as me (scary) but is literally iconic, I first watched it when I was a kid and reruns would play late at night, it still holds up SO well. Like if ONE person sees this and tries out the show, then I will have done my job!
it has really dry humour (obviously) but also explores some deep themes, like racist microaggressions, feeling disconnected from your parents, recognising signs of alcoholism, sexuality, death - I feel like in the late 90s and early 2000s shows for teenagers weren't as patronising and that's why they still hold up into people's adulthoods / have that nostalgia factor, bc the themes are still really relevant
the reason it's taken me so long to upload something about it is purely that I wanted to wait until I could download the HD version that has the original soundtrack (bc it's legendary), which is lowkey pretty dumb since I knew I was going to overdub it anyway??? LMAOOO
in 2010 when the studio converted the series to DVD they replaced all of the music with generic stock stuff bc of music rights, which was completely stupid because it meant that so much of the spirit of the original was lost!
anyway there are some heroes out there who basically restored the entire series in HD a while back and added back in ALL of the original songs - think Radiohead, PJ Harvey, The Offspring, Fiona Apple, KoRn, Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Eels, Garbage, The Cardigans, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden etc. etc. etc.
so yeah I felt like the two days of converting files was worth it to spread the word about this show - it will make you feel SEEN

i really love their complicated dynamic. it's cool how trent didn't "older brother" daria but he also didn't overstep any boundaries although he was aware of her crush on him and was even indulgent in it to an extent without being inappropriate about it. it enunciates the complexity of their relationship very well and how it's kind of one of those things that can be labeled as something close to companionship but more ambiguous simultaneously, y'know? i appreciate that route of portrayal a lot because it's not so black and white or for lack of a better word, cliche.

This is such a sweet tribute It made me think of Jane and Trent's relationship ( I didn't realize they BOTH had triple ear piercings), Jane and Daria, Quinn trying to comfort Daria about Trent and Monique was the first time I remember her actually care and be nice to Daria, and that episode where Daria's rash flared up cuz she was nervous around Trent. I never thought I'd see the show in a cute way, but her feelings for him are just that. I really appreciate the show and all the characters and dynamics they fleshed out, it definitely deserves more of a fandom and attention Thanks so much for making the vid!!

So... apparently my pattern for being attracted to emotionally unavailable financially unstable men started with my crush on Trent as a preteen. As a middle aged adult, I now know where tf it all started.

I can see how someone like Trent can end up being pretty terrible as they get older but even now that I'm older he's still my favorite character.
I don't know what exactly this edit made me feel but it feels really really good. The song selection is absolutely perfect. Curve's music has this "memory you were supposed to have but the moment to grasp it just slipped away" kind of vibe, which is exactly what the show made feel when I first watched.

I know she's like 16/17 & he's in his early 20s but when I was 8 I shipped them. I'm 21 & I had wished that Daria would have a season or a spin-off where years have passed & Daria is in her early or mid 20s & she & Trent have grown up & they get close as close friends again at first but then those old feelings she had comes back but Trent feels the same & they get together & have two kids & maybe as a spin off they have a teen daughter and son who goes through teen hood & is like their parents & instead of asking why their kid is not normal like Daria's parents were but Daria is still herself but warm & kind & encourages her children to be them & think for themselves while Trent does the same & maybe one kid is into music & is closer to Trent & the other is close to Daria.

My gosh now I wanna see their kids who are mix of them For example, a tall boy with tattoos, piercing, glasses and long brown hair who's into the different sciences... And also a short girl with short black hair, maybe «hair like auntie Jane», who loves and makes music and not that good in studying, and usually get into different troubles so asks her brother to help, and they're trying to hide everything from parents, but in the end they tell everything to Daria and Trent, and they not argue but understand and help them with a disgruntled teacher or random bullies And Jane would be that rich and cool aunt who always gives great presents and maybe gives to try some alcohol to her nephew and niece while parents don't see... 😂

I don't use scene packs! I download entire seasons for my edits, this one was via the Daria Restoration Project x
