I think it depends on the person but even I can appreciate how well this is done. There is so much layering and crazy things happen but how clean it is can't be overstated. 6:10 onward is crazy. The bass giving such strong and full sound but the guitar doesn't overpower it at all or blend and fuck with each other.

5:06 The way Spencer sings "When you fly with wax wings in the sun" is incredible. It's got that belting blues feel to it and It makes me do that stank face every time I hear it. Could be my favorite moment on the album

I bummed Spencer a cigarette in Detroit at one of the last shows at the Magic stick before his set! Very cool guy. Spencer actually went to their vendor got me a shirt and had the band sign it. Something i will always remember. At the time he didn't even realize how much of a fallowing they had. Protest The Hero and Periphery what a show.

That final section starting at 4:38 is some of the most emotional filled and well delivered music I've heard in a long long time, if not ever. Absolutely amazing.

​@@mattiodowd3209 Huge amount of filler notes in between the lows, most of these passages are generally some arpeggios with some slight variations here and there, the rhythm is moreso implied by the flow of the melody and phrasing rather than the actual note duration, the base chord progression below the riff is diatonic and ending in bVI. These are all Mark's signature traits. You can hear them in the main/opening riffs of Scarlet, The Way the News Goes, It's Only Smiles and Reptile, to name a few. In general, Mark's riffs feel very open, fluid in their rhythm and note choices, almost unstructured yet perfectly coherent and they are usually diatonic and fairly melodic, despite their general high complexity. Of course there is a chance we are wrong, especially since Periphery's guitarists are imitating each other's styles more and more, but this is definitely a Mark-sounding riff. Hope this helps you identify the nuances of Periphery's riff-writing in your future (re)listens, cheers my dude :D

Same here bud, Luck as a Constant has always stuck with me as being one of my top fav songs by them. Always been a fan of their epic & climatic tunes. This, Dying Star and Thanks Nobuo give me that same vibe as well. Songs like Stranger Things, Lune, Flatline, Satellites, Ragnarok, Luck, etc.

Amazing. Spencer's high notes at the end are fucking killer

This song really showcases Spencer's clean vocals. This is the best his vocals has ever been, it's true that his vocals have gotten better with every release. And here I thought his solo projects had his best cleans. This song is very tragic and beautiful in tone. All I'll say is that the 6 minute mark gave me goosebumps.

You're not wrong at all, but I'd like to suggest a difference: he's became a better leader, vocally. there are great singers but idk anyone who can lean into phrasings that contradict the music so hard with such confidence and come out leading a melody that's stuck in our head for days at a time. art motherfucker

Everyone talks about Mark and Spencer, but I get goosebumps from the atmosphere that Jake 4:21 creates, and thanks to him it gives rise to Spencer's wonderful lyrical work, everyone on this album is an MVP, but there is something about Jake's moments and his guitar solos that lift me higher than any of them.

I tend to like Marks playing or write the most but they are all what makes Periphery what they are. If they lost a member it would still be great but it wouldn't be the same. They all bring something to the table that nobody else in the band brings.

Im convinced this is the best song they've ever written. And extra kudos to Spencer for writing catchy melodies and rhythms to the ever changing key signatures they throw at him.

I feel like this song has such a beautiful combination of luck as a constant, scarlet and the way the news goes.

This is probably my favorite off of the album. Something about some good Mark-centric guitars and Spencer's vocals go so well together.

The fact that Spencer was so tied into the writing process for this one really made this record incredible. This is the most vocal-focused album they’ve put out yet, and it gives Spencer a chance to turn into a god

@@Pedro-bk8pr this track comes after Atropos, I'm not sure if you saw the video for it, but I'm pretty sure this relates directly to our "innovative" full tech, blue lit, social-distancing world we have created, the machines are basically everything that keep us apart, from the others and ourselves, everything that is not escencial. the whole P5 album is progressively going from down under to a spiritual awakening and beyond. first sentence in wildfire: "You take the long way, wrong way to form me" last sentence in thanks nobuo: "Rest the soul, shine like gold" :)

After crafting the wings to make their escape, Daedalus tells Icarus not to fly too low so the sea spray didn’t dissolve the adhesive (wax) holding the wings together, and also not too high so the sun didn’t melt the wax (hence the line “fly with wax wings in the sun”)

Songs like this make you realize just how special Periphery is. So much emotion!!!

Arguably the best song on the album. It's a fucking journey. From that opening Mark riff to Spencer's incredible vocals, this whole album slaps but this one takes the cake for me. Thanks for the music

I heard this on a Twitch stream. The drummer played it well but I didn’t understand the lyrics most of the time. Despite that, it made me tear up. I look it up here and the lyrics resonate way more than I ever imagined they could. And I could still feel it when I didn’t make out more than a few lyrics. Music is a language.

I keep going back to this song and am beginning to realize this is one of the most flawless songs, and features the most beautiful progression of sounds from beginning to end. Legendary.

Seeing the first ever live performance of this song was easily the highlight of my 23 years attending live shows. Bravo, gentlemen. You continue to outdo yourselves.

It's absolutely normal to be moved to tears by good music. It means you have the heart of a music lover~

Might be overanalyzing this, but hot damn these lyrics hit hard. To me these lyrics perfectly convey someone attempting to overcome mental struggles in the face of usual life continuing on around you, all with folks watching or potentially expecting things of you ("and the world is watching today"). Growing from the past ("the surgery of mending pieces") and trying to "resume" where you left off before falling off track. This isn't something they're had trouble with in the past and reaffirm to themselves in the chorus they can do it. ("This is still life, make it mine. Used to do it all the time. Dust off your shoulders through it.") Whether one second, one day, one step at a time. Just keep moving forward. All the while, the machines are cranking on. The way Spencer's scream at 6:00 fades out into the music as if being absorbed by the "machines"? It hits just right. The struggles fitting back into the world after " the damage that’s done when you fly with wax wings in the sun." Perhaps this is even about their own struggles with success? 10/10 one of my new favorite Periphery songs

This jam is my daily dose. It's like food for the soul. That ending, though. Epic and beautiful aren't enough to describe the vibe. Gets me misty eyed.

I have broken up with my boyfriend of almost 6 years, I had pictured my entire future and I have to rebuild it entirely. This album came out exactly when I needed it. I love you guys so much, believe it or not, I wouldn't have had the strength without these songs

Listen to their entire Discography from the beginning. I promise you wont be disappointed and will have a new favorite band. These guys just write masterpieces. If ya dont have time for that, at least go listen to their song Reptile. Just make sure you have almost 17 minutes free. 😉

Listening to them now close to three years and have finally decided to get a 7 string to work on writing songs with their influence. Drop A seems to be my preferred tuning.

I'm not sure our souls were built to withstand 6:01 Spencer. I'm not sure that we've recovered yet from the shutdown honestly. we just aren't the same. music is my therapy. this song will be my daily medication that I can never overdose on. it's love. it's peace. it's understanding. it's reassurance that you aren't alone in this fuckin nightmare. it WILL get better. I pray this gives you hope.

I've been a Periphery fan since P II. The Way the News Goes was always my favorite, but after like 10 listens this is genuinely rivaling it. This is just crazy

I don't know if it's a throwback or something, but the section at 3:02 really sounds like a riff from Have a Blast

It took me so long to figure out what the vocal melodies reminded me of. It's From First to Last, when Spencer was in the band. Regardless, this might be my favorite on the album.

thank you guys so much. this song just helped me get through one of the toughest times in my life and i can't thank you all enough. i've been listening to Periphery for about a year now- Scarlet led to me meeting one of my closest friends, and this song helped me get over a breakup that was tearing me apart. Music really is powerful.

The outro to this song makes me feel like I'm back in a time in my life when I was happy. When things were just, simple. The innocence, the bliss. I can almost smell the air and feel the wind on my skin. See the smiles from the dear friends of a past life. A time, that I'm holding onto like an infant child. This is hands down, my favorite Periphery song of all time. Thank you, for reminding me what it actually means to live.

This song makes me emotional in a way that is hard to explain. Activates feels that haven't been activated since I first heard Mile Zero when I was 18. Wow man.

Wax Winges is the best song on the album. The solo has such Darkest Hour vibes. Everything is Fine! is also an insane track, so many strange vibes, from The Dillinger Escape Plan, Guideon, Darko US and so much more its incredible that they manage to put so much differente vibes in one track jeez these guys are somthing else

I can't tell if Wax Wings or Thanks Nobuo is my favorite track off of P5, but holy moly this is amazing!

After much deliberation I think this and the way the news goes are my favorite periphery songs, they have a little of everything but most of all they exude so much emotion that I think sometimes gets lost in modern metal today. Beautiful song 😍

@@existexit I knew it because I have ever Played this riff before when the song wasn't released. I watched Mark Plays it on his Instagram. I can hear the D string rings on it so yeah I'm sure it's somewhere in the key of D. but it's not drop d thoo.

This shit is fucking beautiful. I had to stop my game and look at my phone to see what the hell song was playing. Absolutely amazing.

I hope you check out more of Periphery if you haven't already. For more songs with insane vocal performances, listen to Ragnarok (heavy but has a huge climax at the end), Satellites (the vocalist hits his highest note in this song at the 5 minute section) and Absolomb (his vocal gymnastics in this song are crazy).

This song is like if Sentient Glow, The Way the News Goes and Luck as a Constant had a baby. I'm here for it.

I love that I know I'll listen to this years from now and be transported back to this moment of first listening. Thank you for giving me a link to the past, love from future me.
