Periodic Classification of Elements

Periodic Classification of Elements: Let's explore Dobereiner's Law of Triads and Newland's Law of Octaves in this video! In the history of the Periodic Table, these were the initial attempts to group elements. We also discuss why do we need to classify elements and the need of a Periodic Table in Chemistry.

1.Three triads 2.136 3.(i)The law succed only upto calcium element not further it (ii)There were no arrangement to add new discovered elements as Newland think that only 54 elements can be possible. Note: -2 Que explained , as if they are triads b=a+c/2 88 =40+c/2 88×2=40 + c 176 = 40 + c 176 - 40 =c 136=c... That 's all.

Hi sir ,you are the best teacher , And the answers for the homework questions are : I) Dobereiner was only able to identify 3 triads . ii) we know that (element A+element C)/2 = elements B (40+C )/2=88 40+C=88*2 40+C=176 C=176-40 C=136 Therefore answer is 136 iii) 2 issues in Newlands octaves were : a)it was only applicable till element calcium . b)newland assumed that only 56 element will exist and no another element will be found in future , but later when new element were discovered Newlands law of octaves became completely irrelevant BUT HIS LAW WORKED VERY WELL IN ELEMENTS CONTAINING LIGHT ATOMIC MASS.......... SIR THANKS A LOT FOR AN EXTODINARY SESSION .....

My answer! Q1. Three traids, (average of atomic mass of 1st and 3rd element is approximately equal to the atomic mass of 2 ND element . ) Q2. We know that, average of atomic mass of 1st and 3rd element is approximately equal to the atomic mass of 2 ND element in order, let us assume C to be x, thus, (A+x)/2=88, (40+x)/2=88 or, 40+x=176,or, x=136u Atomic mass of c is 136u Q3. The two issues were - the table could be valid for the lighter elements till calcium (Ca) . There were only 56 elements discovered till that time (1866) but after the exploration of new elements caused issues and demerits of NewLands table. Edit : Thanks a lot! You are a true teacher 🙏🙏 You helped me memorising full book of science in a month.

    Q1. 3 Q2. Approximately 136, because: (A + C)/2 = B Hence (40 + C) = 88 * 2 40 + C = 176 C = 176 - 40, Hence *C = 136* Q3. i. It only was applicable till calcium. ii. It put two elements in one box. iii. It only took into account the 56 elements that were then discovered, and when more were discovered, many elements could not be fit into the table.

Answers: 1)Dobereiner identified 3 triads 2)Let us assume C=x Given A=40,B=88 According to question, A+C/2=B =>40+x/2=88 =>40+x=2x88 =>40+x=176 =>x=176-40 =>x=136 Thus, the atomic mass of the element C is 136 For checking, A+C/2=B =>40+136/2=88 =>176/2=88 =>88=88 Thus, L.H.S=R.H.S. 3)The 2 issues are: i)Newland thought that there were only 56 elements in nature. ii)The Law of Octaves was only applicable up to Calcium(Ca). I hope, that I have given the right answers.. I am from West Bengal..

    2 nd answer is 136 let element C be x then , (40+x)/2 = 88 40 + x = 88 multiplied by 2 = 176 .'. x = 176 - 40 = 136 I came across various answers regarding this question , that's why I decided to write this comment along with its necessary steps . if u again put value 136 as x and again do the equation to check the answer you'll get as 88 . HOPE THIS HELPS 😌

Q1: The no of triads identified by dobereiner was 3 Q2 average of A and B = Atomic mass of C 40+88/2=128/2=64 Q3 1. Newland law of octaves was only applicable till calcium 2. At that time only 56 elements were known so the Newland law of octaves was applicable only till the 56th element. It worked well only with lighter elements which is till calcium.

Happy to hear that you liked the video! Thanks :) Very good! Answers of Q2 and Q3 are correct!! Q1 answer is 3 because Dobereiner could identify only 3 groups (triads) at that time (see the 3 triads in the video). Each triad contains 3 elements. Also try the Quiz for this video on my Website. Quiz button is below the video: www.manochaacademy.com/chemistry/periodic-classification-of-elements/l/triads-and-octaves

I think most of the one have done mistake in 2 questions the answer is 136 not 64 because the second element is the average of 1st and third element according to the question they gave 1st and second so we have to make some changes in the formula B=A+C/2 C=2B-A ON SUBSTITUTING WE GET C= 136

@@keerthanakeerthi5713 if there are three elements according to the question the three elements are A,B,C according to Döbereiner he said that in a triad the 2nd element according to question it is B the atomic mass of B is approximately equal to the average of the first and third element atomic mass which is A and C in the question they gave the atomic mass for the elements A and B and they asked us to find C's atomic mass so the formulas for finding average is B=A+C/2 so we should derive the formula, 2B=A+C A+C=2B C=2B-A -----(1) ON SUBSTITITUTING ON EQUATION (1) WE GET C=2(88)-40 C=176-40 C=136 HOPE YOU UNDERSTOOD😄 IF YOU HAVE ANY DOUBTS ABOUT MY EXPLANATION PLS ASK I AM READY TO ANSWER
