Perfect Russian "Odyssey" // "Dead Souls" by Nokolai Gogol

"Dead Souls" by Gogol is one of the most important novels in Russian classic literature, perfectly connecting Russian and Ukranian cultures in unique and grotesque form of tragicomedy. It is considered by many as Russian "Devine Comedy", but here in this video I try to prove, that it is more likely Russian "Odyssey". Enjoy!

"Dead Souls" and to a greater extent "Oblomov" by Goncharov were the first Russian authors I read and I felt a good introduction to Russian literature. Good insightful video. Keep up the splendid work.

This video helped answer many of the doubts I had about the book, thank you very much! I really liked your description of the first time reading the book as it describes my experience perfectly. I haven't read the Odyssey, so I guess this book will have to wait a little longer before I give it another go.

I bought myself a copy a few months back, waiting for a chance to read it. I’m currently reading “The Master and Margarita”. What a wonderful world is, indeed, Russian literature, Sr.Tyulpakov. Regards from Mexico

Read this recently and loved it! I felt like there were a lot of comparisons to Don Quixote that could be made in terms of the characters and the humor.
