Mahaney, a transfer from Saint Mary's, was impressed by UConn's coaching staff during his visit to Storrs. The staff's attention to detail and strategic approach resonated with Mahaney and his family, ultimately influencing his decision to join the team. the way that UConn has won these titles does not feel like luck. Their system feels like there actually is something specifically different. Moving until the opponent messes up.

You don't demolish every opponent in your way by well over double digits over two straight tournaments due to luck.

Agree. I listened to a podcast that was second guessing Hurley and saying he got “too cute” with going with Mahaney over Brea
@BlyGuy

@@paulkersey820 why get Brea and potentially upset the more talented homegrown Stewart, who very likely could be the better player by tournament time next year?
Hurley has mentioned a few times about the need to keep the younger players engaged with the team, almost like a continuous recruitment process, knowing that other coaches will be in their ear about transferring. Stewart and Ball should be much bigger pieces of the rotation next season.
these game speed film sessions are nice interview checks for player processing speed.
It’s interesting, Is the final piece knowing that Karaban can come back and average 20ppg? 🤔😎
Joe's article is excellent

Too bad his website has a paywall
Couple Eye-ties doing a deep dive on Huskies hoops! Nice!
Dan probably already has said that the 3 and 4 will be split between Stewey, Alex and Liam with no real "starter". Same with the 1 and 2 with Diarra Nowell and Mahoney. Subs Abraham, Ross, Ball all as competent as subs for the 1/2 or the 3/4 . the 5 should be Johnson starting . reward him for being great, for changing from a stretch 4, and for sticking with UConn. Then develop reed jr and singer
Mahaney is versatile. I would imagine he score 🎼 in rhythm. A great read the defense type of player yet I'll have to see if he can go and get him a basket 🧺, does he have that killer instinct like Newton is?? If you was beating '23-'24 UConn, then Newton didn't hesitate take the green light 🚦. He let every team know that in their winning at the expense of his team losing - that he Newton is a certified, bonafide killa 🥶🥶🥶. Blue blood ice water 🌊 in his veins the entire season. He had NO off 📴 night, no such thing.
I liked Johnson and Diarra off the bench this season. They both made an immediate tempo shift in the game. Will they want to do that again in the fall? It's a tough one. Both have 2 national championship rings, both have been loyal to the program when they could've left, so you kind of feel obligated to let them start if it was an issue. I think the starters will be Mahaney, Karaban, Nowell, McNeeley, and Reed. Then the bench comes in and it's Stewart, Ball, Diarra, Johnson, and Abraham. I'd rather see a couple freshmen make the best of it to start the game, then if things get sketchy the second crew, who are all killers, come in and change the game.
If Karaban does return they could still offer a little NIL money for a couple of preferred walk-ons..local kids...to flesh out the roster. You never know when injuries will hit.

The injury bug will probably hit them sooner than later considering how lucky the Huskies have been injury wise these last two years. Hopefully like this past year, they all happen early on, allow different players and lineups to get necessary experience, and then healthy for the postseason
I keep seeing scenarios where if Karaban comes back McNeely beats out Stewart at the wing. I dont see that happening especially early because of Stewarts experience, defense and rebounding. Shooting needs to improve and i think it will but even then it will not be on the level of Mc Neely. If later on in the season McNeely takes his spot then itll mean McNeely is an absolute stud because Stewart is the real deal.
Watching the Knicks and Philly series I can’t help but think about UConn. The talent in the NBA is obviously significantly better BUT the schemes are one dimensional and the play is sloppy. UConn’s offensive scheme and efficiency is better than NBA playoff teams. Let’s hope the Knicks don’t come calling for Hurley

I think he might be more of a Calhoun mindset, prefers the college game, Of course everyone has a price. Im sure his father had many oppurtunities to go coach @ the next level and never did and stayed at high school age. I don't think you can motivate players the same way in the pros. The pros bore me to be quite honest, doesn't have the excitement IMO.
Hassan is a starter. Why would he come back to sit? Also, AK is coming back since he won't go in the 1st round. I hope Hurley can manage all this playing time too.

Is he though? Because he’s won back to back titles coming off the bench and they don’t bullshit guys. That’s his role. Does he have the option to compete yes. Do you follow this team often? Nobody left for more playing time. UConn’s not like everyone else
Should look at sean Stewart need power forward with karaban likely gone
@LockedOnUConn
Ай бұрын
Why? All due respect but Sean Stewart doesn’t fit what they look for at PF. If AK is gone they’ll fill a spot but I think they expect him to be back
Great video AK needs to come back if he does he’s a sure top 15 pick next year with this roster without AK there a top 12 team no chance of 3 peating
Did Reed Jr. decide not to come to UConn?

Opinions are just that. Hass has played his role to perfection at UConn. Not out of the realm of possibility he stays in that role. 🤷🏼♂️
