This was so long coming! Per is one of my favorite improvisers in any genre, and I've been wanting to try to get him on the live...and here we go!
Guitarist, composer, and producer Per Nilsson has been on the metal scene for a decade or more. We're going to talk about Scar Symmetry, playing w Meshuggah, his influences and musical background and not least of which, his incredible Strandberg Signature NX True Temperment guitars.
Go to Instagram to load your questions for the stream and join in live. This is going to be great.

This is an INCREDIBLE crossover. I love this channel for all of the classic gear talk, but I do love me some modern/extreme metal. Hell yeah \m/

Per is the best kept secret in the guitar sphere. His phrasing, note choice, dynamics, virtuosity and use of melody are incredible. He brings a level of musicality to metal that is rarely seen/heard. A lot of guitarists make me wish I could play as fast or tight as them but what I really envy about Per is the way he thinks about music and understands the relations between chords and the notes he plays over them.

I own a Strandberg Boden 8 TT (purple, original with the ebony fingerboard) and a Boden 6 TT - I LOVE the true-temperament frets ... I just hope I never need a refret because that's not happening. By the way, for TT tuning I highly recommend The Turbo Tuner - True Strobe Tuner from Sonic Research.

Thanks again, Keith. Man, I have to play a Strandberg multi scale/fanned fret guitar. I think my ageing hands and wrists will help me, but the Strandbergs are as rare as hen’s teeth here in Australia. I’ll keep saving for one, I guess.

@@fivewattworld I kind of miss the 70s mix of all the music and I am willing to bet that you’ll find Return to Forever, Lee Ritenour, and Jean luc Ponty albums in many metal band members closets. Fusion was what non-disconians were listening to in their youth because it was about all the virtuoso music on FM, and most of our 60s heroes had died from speedballs(Lowell George) RIP or laid out because “Disco Inferno “ was playing somewhere on the radio at any given moment… lol No airtime left for anything else.

I actually just sold that guitar to a friend of five watt world. As I’ve said before I’m really not a Strat guy and I just keep trying different possibilities for the tones. Currently I’m using PRS Silver Sky SE and a modern Eagle V.
