Matt is right - RFK's relevancy and clout in our politics reflects the sort of existential angst of the current moment we're in. With RFK, here you have a kook who is emblematic of the warranted distrust and frustration with our institutions; of the politics that has failed everyday, working people. As with someone like Trump, nobody like RFK gains traction unless there's profound systemic deterioration, brought on by decades of neglect by the status quo, whom we had entrusted with the duty to responsibly meet the material needs of those they were put into position to serve. An additionally dark thing about RFK's candidacy is that he's also a victim of this too - growing up in a disgusting and disfigured political family dynasty that, even though has always acted above the law in it's wealth & privilege, also has bore consequences of gross excess that has resulted in tragedy. On top of Kennedy scandal after scandal, his father's and uncle's murders at such a young age couldn't have been good for him. I view RFK Jr. as representative of the ultimate politics of paranoia and the desperate search for diminished meaning America is facing. A clamoring to make sense of things.

lol completely meaningless metric. Taking that seriously would be a good bit. The bulletin of atomic scientists should know better than to have some bullshit hokey interpretive symbol to predict the nuclear holocaust. As long as America exists, the danger will be there give or take, I dunno 2 minutes? What does that equal out to. 2 minutes means its a code orange terror threat which means you have possibly 5 years to live unless NATO goes and Gaddafis someone.

Fukuyama wins. Fukuyama always wins. Fukuyama will always win.
can you imagine him succeeding tho, vlad taped to a chair in a dark room in the kremlin, and this hobgoblin walks in "it is aeh hammer time." idk how good a wagner russian state would be for anyone but an actual civil war even if short would be good for the ukrainian war effort. lets just say they took a lot of supplies and managed to convert a bunch of troops, then that could make a real impact for ukraine, that would be good, but i dont know how good a wagner victory would be, the best outcome would be just a big ass fight where nothing really changed at the end, or maybe nato coming in to bail putin out in exchange for ending the war or something. but no it was basically just like someone shit talking their coworker and then the coworker shows up suddenly and the protagonist appologizes, they both go okey we cool, but both parties murmur really mean shit while walking away, it seems more like a Seinfeld episode than a coup really.

Really funny commentary, but I think the Russian state is quite powerful and solid. I don’t think there was any risk that Putin would’ve been overthrown by a bunch of Fascist mercenaries. Starting an open civil war with them would have been a far worse look for Putin. The war in Ukraine is about global geopolitics and Russia is a very important part of this new emerging multipolar world.

I mean, doesn't this show how much Putin and Russia DON'T have their hands on the reins? Their three-day invasion has turned into the next Winter War and to top it off there was literally just a Mussolini-style march on Moscow which shot down several Russian military assets, was declared traitors but also basically got to leave freely (potentially with nuclear weapons). That's just incompetence. If that's the other pole coming into the world, we're not going to see any improvement. If the world is going to get better, the opposite pole to American hegemony can't be a fucking fascist kleptocracy like Russia
Maybe we wouldn't be finding out about stuff years too late to do anything about it if those who attempt to warn us of them while they're being introduced aren't dismissed out of hand by "know-nothing" ironic-sounding hipster "influencers" reinforcing the helpless apathy of their alloted demographic of followers?

They're talking about the Russia 'coup' like it was successful (it wasn't, and it wasn't even a coup), Matt thinks that Putin not killing Prigozhin and lots of his men shows weakness (that's American thinking for you, Russians see it as Putin saving lots of Russian lives), and they talk about Wagner like they did the sledgehammer video (it was Ukraine - but like everything Ukraine do, our media pins it on Russia). @alistairpage-mcgill2723 for starters, why would someone in Putin's position not want to crush a group like Wagner? Avoiding that and allowing panic to ensue in Moscow, even temporarily, shows that Putin does not think he has the support for such an action politically/militarily. Another words, Wagner is Russia's Praetorian Guard at this point, and Putin is taking a huge risk letting them stay that way. This is pretty basic stuff regarding state relations to mercenary groups, untold numbers of examples through history.
