As I was watching I said to myself that looks like what my husband and I would be doing as well. I'm beyond happy that we live in a state that doesn't get any snow except every blue moon nor do we get icy roads and driveways. Ahhh, the awesome South East Georgia.

As a Finnish person I say don't EVER wear sneakers on winter. I don’t understand why people do that. Those won’t keep your feet warm and will only make you fall on ice. I don’t recommend those (or flip flops). Get proper winter wear instead.

Vibram boots soles are much better than ordinary soles, we also have Ice FX boots, they work well . I bought a very warm pair of winter boots, the fabric lining it is made with real wool, I never have cold feet but they are so slippery that I have to wear them with ice cleats. Slipping on ice is no joke especially when getting older, it is not worth it to fracture a bone.@@gregorsailejj

I have issues with ice. One night, as I was walking home from a nice dinner at a local restaurant, I happened to be walking on a patch of ice. What I didn't see was that water was trickling from a nearby roof, onto this patch of ice. When I stepped on it, I was immediately slipping and fell backwards onto my head, where I stayed for a few seconds to make sure I was all right. I tell you, THAT was like stepping on greased lightning.

@3:00 my father lives in Texas, and I gave him this idea when he told me there were forecasted for freezing rain ; put a tarp down where you would walk, weigh it down with something fairly heavy but not terribly so (like loose stones), and then after it snows/the rain freezes, rip the tarp up, revealing the underneath which won't be frozen. Then you can walk to/from no issues.

They start out on the top of the mountain and race downhill to the town. The snow and ice are just a tiny part of it. They race thru forests and streets to get to the finish line. Kilian Bron has his own YT channel where he rides with a GoPro strapped to his helmet. If you don't have motion sickness they're crazy to watch. It amazes me how they can ride single file in some of the tighter trails and then pass each other while doing so.

Spray the inside doors rubbers with a silicone spray to avoid them freezing to the car. Set your heat and fan to high when you start remotely that will help thawing the doors. You can use some deicing sprays to remove packed ice on the car. Dont get your gaz tank go lower than half in winter. During the ice storm in 1998 in Quebec, Canada, people could heat themselves in their cars since the electric heating was not working in their homes. But even better: Stay home, work from home if you can. If you absolutely have to go on the road, at least have an emergency kit, ice cleats to your boots and dont get out of the car if you get stuck, the car is your armor , it will shelter you form other vehicles colliding with you.

Unfortunately not everyone has newer cars with a remote start feature. I have it on my 2021 Subaru, but my friend doesn't on her 2013 Camry. She grumbles and snarls when she's out there clearing her car off just to be able to get inside and start it and I'm down at the other end of my house tucked up warm and cozy in my bedroom and my car starts up without me having to step one foot out the door.😂 My only request for future cars is automatic snow removal. That would be so nice on cold winter mornings when I'm facing the daunting task of pushing 15" of fresh snow off the top of my car so I can drive out over it.

That dad from Indianolo is the prime example of what they call 'Iowa Nice'. Resident of Des Moines here, just up the road from Indianola.

The downhill biking race is not "people vs. ice" it is "people vs. brain" ...

7:30 I'm from a cold country. That is just fun. Healthy kids don't get seriously hurt from that. Maybe old people or someone with weak bones, but not kids. I can walk on wet ice as fast as on asphalt if I go straight. Just remember to slow down when turning. :)

The Mountain of Hell Race starts at the TOP and finishes down in the town below. They don't pedal up the mountain. Kilian Bron has a YT channel where he posts videos of his races and various mountain biking fun from his GoPro on his helmet. MEGAVALANCHE is another race that starts out from the snowy and icy top of a mountain and ends in a town far below.

If you just put socks over your shoes it will stick to the ice and you won't fall.
