Peonies in pots vs. peonies in a bed? A nursery experiment // Starting your nursery

I’ve never grown peonies. This video is part one of an experiment to see if peonies grow better in nursery pots or in the ground in beds. In starting your nursery, experiments are happening all the time.

Hi again....in the beginning of this season....early spring I was googling where to buy peony plant and I kept seeing pics of these tubers! I had no idea what they were so fist lesson learned was you could buy tubers to grow...lol I was shopping too late in season to start as tubers so I bought 1.5 gallon size at a nursery...they were about $25 ea.....really appreciate your videos! 😊kim

  • @savvydirtfarmer

Homemade mixture of double ground hardwood bark mixed with pine bark. Numerous ways to mix your own potting soil.. it has to hold some moisture and it has to drain well... those are really the only two requirements.

that soil scoop is what I'd like to know about - where you got it from. Great design. Can't find anything like it around my area. Can you tell where you got it? Amazon has one similar but doesn't have the cut out on the handle to enable it to hang on a wheelbarrow side or whatever. thanks

Well I know they need to be planted at least 2 feet apart, because they grow very big and very fast. Every 2 or 3 years need to divide the plant. Also pots need to have lost of space to grow since the roots grow faster than the plant. No water at all and lots pf sun. That’s what I do with my 7 year old peony plant

Peonies hate being moved, if planted and left alone they will provide joy for generations, but if moved very likely they will give 1 or none flowers in first one or two seasons
