Really good conversation. Key take-aways: 1. be kind to yourself. South Africans can be terribly hard on themselves.. 2. If you feel that you're lacking skills and talents; brute-forcing, showing up, will take you a long way. To add; "system thinking", as well as "design thinking" can be taught and learnt. And even though luck plays a role; luck can be engineered too, since "Luck is when preparation meets opportunity" and opportunity is a mindset of seeing problems as challenges, questions seeking an answer, and turning answers into solutions. Peace

In the early stages of the interview you talked about group lending and how it's used in India. My dad actually wrote his thesis for his MBA about that idea, but he implemented it in agriculture. After writing that thesis, the company he works at now does group lending for small scale farmers, specifically sugarcane farmers in rural areas. They saw the same results as the bank in india, people actually paid the loans they were given to fund their farms.

This is exciting, I remember I was in a local taxi and I saw the yellow container I stopped purchased a bit of mealie meal, and bought one glass bottle. In the lift club I used to read the the name as "gcwali S.A" and I was like if you do not know kasi slang it becomes a challenge. Lol again I am learning it is Gcwalisa. I love this.

..great chat between top chaps.. ..an aside: manholes being round has nothing to do with drill bits.. they are safer and easier to access, and less prone to cracks as they age.. square manholes get cracks at the corners over time because of structural stresses, which would mean more maintenance costs....

Hi, thank you for the kind words 🙏🏽. This question is an IQ question made famous by Microsoft interviews…but it existed long before Microsoft started asking it back then. Once it became known people started memorising the answer like the one you found from Google ( I assume). But what people who failed the interviews did not understand was that, the question was not testing your ability to recall information but your ability to think. To put it in other words; it’s a test for the interviewee’s first principle axiomatic logic, which provides a foundation for deductive reasoning and is used to establish the fundamental principles upon which a logical system is built People that were being interviewed generally already had high IQs. High IQs however did not necessarily translate to someone knowing how to think. This is why they kept the question despite people “knowing” the answer. The second reason why the question was important, it was to figure out if the person being hired could see multiple views to the same problem. So yes the statement you made is correct. But the question asked was specific to man holes and not man hole covers. , The “…has nothing to do with drill bits” in your statement negates that two things can be simultaneously correct and not be mutually exclusive. This image pin.it/6hXGdhH best explains this. kzread.infomYy9wjb1Q28?feature=share Glad you enjoyed the chat 😊 Ps the only reason I got this right was that after I told him half jokingly that there were no man holes is Soweto, he laughed and then said “if there were, why do I THINK they are round? So I was basically forced to think😂

From now onwards I’ll bring a notepad when these episodes drop because like really there is a lot to learn. If only South Africans were as good as these guys we would be somewhere else as the country. Thank you for sharing glimpses of your lives with us.
I love this.
oh man!!!! another great episode!
Can't wait for this one

Thanks fro bringing people like this to the show Mkhaya! I never knew this guy's story but I can relate to almost everything he is speaking about coz I went through similar experiences. Dope interview
17:17 beeeeennn saying this. Can some willing South Africans come to Zim please just to experience being somewhere different. I’ve met a few over the years…loved meeting these spirited individuals. Still an acquaintance to one to this day. And l can reach out the another I’m sure.
I am soo glad, i watched the crew episode that made me to see this episode, shoutout to the penuel show
..great chat between top chaps.. ..an aside: manholes being round has nothing to do with drill bits.. they are safer and easier to access, and less prone to cracks as they age.. square manholes get cracks at the corners over time because of structural stresses, which would mean more maintenance costs....
