It's funny that you've mentioned Boyz II Men in multiple videos because one of their members, Shawn Stockman, is pretty much considered by the fandom to be the first Pentaholic. He was a judge on Season 3 of The Sing Off, where Pentatonix were entered on their first step to super stardom. I swear, every performance they put on, Shawn looooooved. I don't think he had any criticisms of them for the whole season.

Welcome to the long winding road of Pentatonix, you are in for the journey of your life 😊 Pentatonix never ceases to amaze me, at just how incredibly talented they are, and take their voices to newer levels, we have never heard before.....there is something so special about their ability, to tell the songs story, allowing us to listen with a new perspective, and hear & feel emotions, we may not have heard from the original artist 💖💖💖 Not only their voices, but their delivery is also their gift!

Yes this new black guy, Matt Sallee, is the bass who took over for Avi in late 2017 when Avi decided to take a step back from Pentatonix to deal with some personal and family issues. To hear more of him and what he can do, I suggest their cover of New Rules/Are You That Somebody. For one of their originals (with Avi) I recommend Love Again. Enjoying your reactions and have subscribed for more Pentatonix ❣️

I often think of songs I think you would appreciate while listening to you. I sometimes note them in the comments. I would use your patreon but I’m on social security and simply don’t have the funds to send. But keep on reacting and I keep on listening. Thank you

Yes, this is Mitch mullet era. This is one of Matt's first videos. Avi has left, amicably. Yes, we still miss him. PTX can do anything. If you ever want to see how they got their start, the sing off season 3. You will see how they got so good. PTX is known for their wall of sound. They are also masters of layering. To see the phenomenon of the layering, watch their upgrade of "say something".

They really put the groups needs above everything else. All can sing and arrange, they work so well together, but the main 3, Scott, Mitch and Kirsten went to Jr and Senior highschool together, there are no egos or sense of entitlement. They know each other so well and compliment each other. You should look at the video clips from a show they won 11 yrs ago "Sing Off". Kevin and Avi (original bass) had joined the trio within days of first performance. There's 12 or more:Let's Get it On, Born to Be Wild, Dog Days are Over .... Also ck out Bohemia Rhapsody, Say Something.

It’s funny you mentioned BoysIIMen. Shawn Stockman was a judge on the accapella show called the “The Sing Off” that they won. They were a newly formed group and auditioned and won. You could go back and check out their journey through the show. It’s all on YT. Just search Pentatonix Sing Off. You can see them as babies. (But still SO good). And Shawn was the original Pentaholic. He loved them from day 1!

  • @Gwennedd

The group doesn't actually have a lead singer. They decide who does lead for whatever song they're doing at the time by whom is best suited to the tone and vocals. Generally, Scott does much of the organizing and leads because his baritone is suited to so many songs and his vocal range is very wide ( 4 octaves). The rest are just as versatile in their ranges ( Mitch has a 5 octave range if you include whistle tones that sound like a sharpie pen on whiteboard). The new guy is Matt Sallee who replaced Avi Kaplan as the group's bass. Avi left amicably for personal reasons in 2017 and is now perusing a solo career. Matt auditioned for the part and got it that same year. And the group has 5 great vocalists, btw...Kevin can sing as well, but because his contribution is doing the beats, he doesn't often get a chance to shine. He sings in Amazing Grace, Imagine, Mary Did You Know. He also plays both the sax and cello and we sometimes see him playing and beat boxing at the same time ( something he invented...celloboxing!). To see him use the cello in PTX songs, check out Shallow, Over The River, Thank You, Radioactive, Perfect, Say Something.

They ALWAYS make the primary focus the music and not the group. Doesn’t matter who’s singing what as long as the song itself shines. They manage to prioritize the song, arrange the group vocals to show the harmonics and STILL showcase each incredibly talented members individual skills. This is one of the many things that has led to their success. The philosophy continues by supporting the members in their individual endeavors by agreeing to prioritize PTX for the good of the group. So proud of these human beings. Great reactions!

Scott does have great voice and an incredible range. He is a baritone but can sing very low and high. He sings bass when Matt, the bass, sings a solo like he does in this song. Matt is on the far left. He's been with the band since 2017. Avi left because of personal reasons, but amicably. You are right. I've watched this video many times and hear something new all the time. Yes...they have 4 lead singers. Kevin sings only now and then, because he is the one they depend on to keep the beat, but if you want to hear him sing, listen to their cover of "Imagine".

They choose what suits the song the best. Yes, Matt came in after Avi left. They're both amazing! Yes, Kevin does indeed have a drum kit in his throat. Yes, we are pretty sure they are all aliens. Thanks for your interesting reaction to PTX' _Sound of Silence._ You have started with the third of a set of extremely popular versions, though. The first is the Simon and Garfunkel original from the mid-1960s. Then about 10 years ago the metal group Disturbed did an incredible yet restrained cover. I recommend reacting to the previous two. I don't think there is an official video for the original that shows anything other the album art,. There is a live version from the 90s, though. It's still pretty good but I prefer them at their peak in the 60s. For Distubed, I recommend the official video with its incredible visuals. There is a live version from the Conan Show, but their singer was ill that day and you can hear at times he is not at his best.

I know 3 remix OK and each one is so different so powerful and so strong the only way you could honestly choose 1 over the other is based on where you are inside your own soul. What life are you fighting right now are you fighting Simon and Garfunkel are you fighting pentax or are you fighting disturbed. That's the difference pentax is loving and hopful. Simon and Garfunkel is sad and lost. Disturbed is angry and we're gonna do something about it. More utopian we're gonna make it right but again. You got a figure out which one you're following, there is no right answer there is no wrong answer there's your answer now I love that, and I love the fact that Simon who wrote the song is 100% behind. He spoke to them both Dsturbed and Pantex and let them know how he felt.
