This is Tokyo Popspring. They are dressed as anime characters. So imagine a group of. five with no instruments filling up a stadium in Tokyo and being so popular that part of their concert is shown on MTV/ Tokyo and they are singing original songs. PTX. Breaking rules all over place!

Absolutely Amazing if you ask me! Speaking of breaking rules! Like Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Recording a song that has no lyrics, by a band that has no instruments. PTX says that's the challenge, a 'hold my beer moment'! I can't wait til Christmas rolls around!!! Matt, you are in for a real treat! PTX is known world wide for their Christmas albums. Many people say before hearing them, 'nothing here that I haven't heard'. Surprise! Surprise! They have not heard PTX BRING IT!

*The ear things preformers wear are called "in-ears"..typically speakers/the crowd are SOO loud that singers/preformers cant hear themselves..in-ears allow them to hear what's going on with the music in real time..what EXACTLY is it?..in-ears are a mold of the inside of someone's ear, made so prefectly it fits like a glove..its SOO air tight that it cuts off almost ALL outside sounds..as far as what they DO?...in one ear there's a voice that tells them what part of the song is coming up next & a continuous clicking sound that matches the speed of the beat - it keeps them on beat (obviously😅)..the OTHER ear is a blend of the music - the band/track, other singers, &..well pretty much anything that the person wants to hear while they sing..cool thing is: each person can adjust the volumes of everything they hear so its the right mix for them..every performers in-ear cocktail is different...one singer might wanna hear more of the BAND while another might want more of the background VOCALS..depends on the person tbh..SIDENOTE: the in-ear volumes are changed in rehersals so by the time they get on stage everything is just they way they like it...if u see preformers take them out its bc the mix they chose in rehersal wasnt as good as they thought...OR: the sound guy messed up their mix by accident..OR (and this usually is they case): they simply wanna hear the arena/crowd to feed off their energy😁..if they want something about the mixed changed DURING the show they can try to signal to the sound engineer but bc there are SOO many sounds happenong in the in-ears the sound guy might not know which sound the preformer wants changed..this usually results in the preformer straight up saying something like "could i have more/less *fill in the blank* please"...there are compilations of preformers having in-ear issues & having to do stuff like all over the internet u should check 'em out😊...but yeah, that's what in-ears are😁🖤*

I love this story of how “Cracked” ended up on their 2015 self-titled album. While on their late-winter 2015 tour, they were spending the time they weren’t on stage arranging and recording demos of the original songs for the album (they had a recording studio set up in a big van that traveled with them). Also, there was a camera crew filming their tour for the “On My Way Home” documentary (highly recommended!). At one point of the documentary, you see Scott and Ben (the unofficial six member of the group-he’s been their co-arranger and music co-creator as well as helped Scott found the group by being the one to connect with both Avi and Kevin) working on Cracked. We don’t hear the full song in the film, but what was heard got such a huge response from the fans that the group changed their plans for it. Originally, it hadn’t made the cut for inclusion on the album, but it was added due to fans calling for it. It worked perfectly as the opening song for their 2016 tour.

The earpieces provide the beat and starting pitch for the singers. Acapella especially needs it as they don't have any instruments to rely on and they need to start singing at the exact same time. Edit: The way HF uses it is that Tim steps on a little button on stage and every earpiece starts that particular song. Idk about PTX tho.

I do think they have different levels of each other in their ears though. I assume bass and beat have each other extra but might not need the trio as much etc. I know Scott mentioned once that his in-ears malfunctioned and during the show Kirstie kept getting louder and louder in his ear until it hurt at the end. They really do sound just as great live as they do in their videos/studio version. My oldest son introduced me to PTX back in 2015 and I've been a fan ever since. My son was scheduled to deploy and I found out PTX would be performing about two hours away from the base. I surprised him with tickets 3 rows from the front of the stage for him and I to go see them before they deployed (luckily he wasn't on duty the day of the concert). We had a blast and it was a concert I will never forget, not only because it was PTX (whom I probably would not have heard of if it were not for him), but because it was an experience that my son and I enjoyed together (I don't take those moments for granted as I get older). Thank you so much for your awesome reaction to this! They are such great live performers! Water is one of my very favorite PTX songs and there is no official video, just like many other original songs. Kirstin wrote it. Along with that fabulous voice she is a really good song writer. You should check out Love Me When I Don't and Be My Eyes when you get a chance. Of the three originals only Can't Sleep Love has an official video. I think some of their best songs get overlooked by reactors that will only react to songs that have video and that is just sad for them (and us). Just a few of those songs are Petals, Anchor, Ref and so many others. Hope you react to more of those originals without video, or at least enjoy them for yourself. You will love them and us Pentaholics don't mind an audio only reaction when the music is so darn good. Thanks again for taking us along in your discovery and exploration of PTX and their associated solo work as well. So appreciate it!

For sassy Mitch, I'd suggest the cover of No (Megan Trainor) - then for recent PTX their originals Anchor and Never Gonna Cry Again (Mitch leads in both). They've come a long way and are now experimenting with more production and techniques - 'their ability to learn/try/incorporate new sounds keeps them interesting and relatable. While I love their 'old school' A Capella sound (strictly A Capella). I also very much enjoy their new 'produced and layered' sound of their Lucky Ones Deluxe album. So much great music for you to delve into.

Hello Matts Reacts, So glad that you did this one!!. The ear pieces are so they can hear each other and hear the cues and starting pitch. There is no instrument so they need to know when to start. Scott in Cracked just riffed his way right through. Kirstie in Water is just so sweet. Avi and Kevin driving the beat and bass. All of them doing Evolution of Michael Jackson live just shows that they can do those arrangements and seamless transitions in one take. Can't Sleep Love is so special - Mitch starting with those vocals - "pwaw pwaw pwaw" and the ear candy "yeah", then getting sassy while walking with the setting us on "fire", rapping and sassing and then taking off with those high notes - spectacular - he stole the show. Your description of Mitch is spot on - "transformed again...shape shifter...enigma....mystery wrapped in a riddle.....he is Mitch" - LOVE THAT. Still waiting for you to do The Prayer and soon will be time for Aha live from Singapore Vista - you may want to do the official music video first - do them back to back - so you can hear the audio clearly but then see what a live performance can really do - it's a fan cam. . Loved your reaction and how you really appreciate PTX.

Thanks for this Matt! Glad you enjoyed this live performance. This is a great example for all the naysayers that say PTX can’t possibly be as good live as their studio arrangements. 🤙🏻

They have performed in Canada. They were last there during their 2019 world tour. They did North American and South America in 2019. They did Asia in early 2020. They were planning to do Europe in spring 2020 but we all know how that went. They are still trying to perform the European leg. They (overly) optimistically rescheduled it for 2021 and then again for 2022 but all of the venues weren't open yet. I believe they are more popular in Europe than they are in the US.

I’m pretty sure they’re more popular in the US. They sing at much larger venues in America than in Europe.

This is a classic as far as I'm concerned. I'll tune in every time a reactor watches! Recommending Over The River ft. Lindsay Sterling. PTX can take a child's song and turn it into an adult version. It is incredable. Warning: Kirsty is stellar as is Lindsay. They add the elements to the song, Water, Earth, Fire, Air, adding Ice and Magic is Lindsay. And also recommend, Ain't Goin Down (Til the Sun Comes Up) by Home Free.(A Garth Brooks Song)

Thanks for doing this one Matt! For another mind-blowing live experience check out their Joyful Joyful (Live from the Evergreen Experience). Don’t stop pausing, I watch to hear your thoughts and impressions throughout the song! Next original needs to be Love Again. Then you should do more Superfruit (no copyright issues! 👏🏻) doing Hip Hop Goes Broadway Part 1 and 2 and Empire Medley and Mitch covering Your Power. There, I have the next few days planned out for you. 😁💜

Ear pieces let them hear their own voice so they hit the notes. May be other types of earpieces. I would love to see them one day.

Since you were eager to take this rather lengthy video on, would you please consider doing, at least, a few episodes of 2019 World Tour? I think you would really enjoy seeing them as people as well as performers. Episodes 0, 1, & 2 are amazing. I've only seen a couple of reactors take this on and it was so great.

New to your channel loving your reactions! Yes they are so worth it to see live if you can! The ear buds help when you are performing live. You can hear yourself and the there to keep you on key, if they have a click track to keep you on time, and it helps not to blow out your voice singing too loud trying to hear yourself.

A capella singers need to hear each other to tune as they go through the song. But in a stadium like that, the sound is slightly delayed and distorted from the speakers so they cannot really hear each other in real time and makes it near impossible to tune in real time. So their in-ears give them the click for the beat and they hear the whole band in their ears.

All bands need 1 ear piece to hear themselves & I think they hear the whole band on the other one.
