That happened at the LSU UF game in '07 (the craziest college football season of all time; it's only fitting the wackiest college football coach would win the NC that year). Midway through the 3rd quarter, the PA announcer (Dan Borne) announced the final score of the USC Stanford game and the crowd went berserk (LSU hated USC for the AP listing them as national champs in '03). Just plays later, Tebow hit Cornelius Ingram for a long, wide open TD pass and the crowd went from crazy loud to dead silent (gave UF a 24-14 lead). To end, LSU won this game 28-24, scoring 2 touchdowns on its 2 4th quarter drives. The drives took over 10 minutes; the second was an 8+ minute, 15 play drive that included two fourth down conversions (they were 5 for 5 on the night).

The white out is good for about a 14 point cushion. Typically takes a quarter or two for the opposing team to settle down.

As a Michigan fan I'll never forget watching this. It was the first time i was physically and emotionally intimidated by an opposing teams crowd through my own TV. Penn State represents some of the best parts of the BIG Ten and these white out games are a prime example. Kinda wish I could forget the beatdown we took that night tho...

As a michigan fan and season ticketholder, I hate our fans and how the old geezers hog up all the season tickets and sit there and are dead quiet the whole game. Why go? Literally the michigan grads from the 60s and 70s and 80s have most of the tickets. That's why the big house is kinda lame at times. They need to take the tickets away from people after a certain age. Just my opinion.

For the longest time, I never understood why crowd noise affected the game so much. I got that it was loud, but surely you could still make reads and go through your progressions. Then I went to the #13 LSU - #2 Georgia game of 2018 at Death Valley. Videos and broadcasts just don't do it justice. It gets so damn loud in these concave stadiums that it isn't just intimidating, it's disorienting. At one point, I genuinely had to cover my ears. It's incredible. You can't hear your own thoughts, as the noise drowns them out. You begin to understand why a wide open receiver could be completely unseen, or why a read option was completely misread. Fans have such a huge impact on the game, so much so that the die-hard culture of a team can overcome outstanding talent on any given day. Damn I love college football.

That's not a joke, either. I was at the #2 LSU - #9 Auburn game in Death Valley back in 2019. The concave of the stadium made everything so loud, my hearing started to pop, like when you make audio in an editor clip and get distorted. I could not imagine how Bo Nix felt in that stadium, man... Glad that you had that experience!

Alexander W. Downs the quality of play is almost just as equal in good conferences/good matchups because both college and pro ball have teams at equal levels of play. I’d argue college sports has an even more even playing field because everyone is the same age with the same amount of experience, meanwhile in pro leagues you can have veteran teams dominating young rebuilding teams. I don’t know the numbers but I imagine upsets are more prevalent in the NCAA. Just my opinion though

There are maybe 20 games out of the whole season that are truly competitive among the top teams? Any NFL team can beat any NFL team. That's the whole "On any given Sunday" thing.

Always hated playing spartie because it seemed for the longest time when we were doing well & you guys were playing bad, you would always beat us. Other times when i thought we'd lose to you, we'd end up winning. Those games always drove me crazy. I know you guys have fallen on hard times as of late but hang in there

I was a Junior in the student section during this game, man this is great stuff to look back on. Still gives me chills thinking about the community and energy Penn State has especially on Saturdays. Miss it more and more everyday.

You would have to come dressed in white., even if it is just for three hours. I had a North Carolina State (not comparable to LSU but you get the point) friend come up. He fit right in wearing white and yelling along with the other 110k of us.

I’m a big Michigan fan, but damn the energy and momentum you could feel on Penn states side from that song was something else.

I'm a Buckeye fan and I wish the Shoe would be like this. Such an intimidating atmosphere!

As much as I prefer the NFL over college football, I will admit that an NFL game would NEVER see an environment like this. This gives you chills.

Yeah back before they did improvements to the stadium at Williams Brice Stadium in Columbia, SC when we would go watch the Gamecocks play they'd get the sandstorm and the towels going before kickoff and the whole stadium would sway back and forth.... it was deafening. College football is incredible.

I'm a BYU fan, and I went to the Wisconsin game last year, when they started doing jump around, the ground under started to shake, and we were sitting at the top of the nosebleeds, I looked down at the parking lot, I could feel everything swaying and shaking, I was legitimately anxious.

Crowd noise...you really don’t truly appreciate it until it’s gone

I miss this version of life.

As a Mich fan when I can say when Mich have to go to PSU the fan base be hoping that's it's a noon game because at night we know it's going to be a tough out with the crowd being lit LOL! Much respect to PSU fans the night game you guys make an event x10. I remember this game as well too when Mich called time out I knew it's was a wrap,.
