The White Out is a party with 115,000 of your best friends, losing your voice, watching your team win (ideally), and creating a literal man made mini earthquake (it measures on the Richter Scale at a local weather station a few miles away). It’s more than an experience. I was at the Halloween White Out in 2012 against Michigan when I was a student there. The atmosphere is unmatched and the participation of the entire stadium is legendary

A couple of things: 1.) PSU is the abbreviation for Penn State University, and almost everyone at Penn State just calls it PSU. 2.) Final game attendance was counted at over 110,000 people. 3.) I don’t think you noticed, but on the first play of the game, Michigan had to call a timeout. They couldn’t get the snap off because the center couldn’t hear the QB because of all of the noise. There’s only one White Out, and it is the best atmosphere in college football. Hands down.

Penn State vs. Auburn University, 2 of our top 25 ranked teams. If you can get it, record it and get the real feel. Many identify this event as the best in all of college football. I was actually at this game (and try to go every year) and the atmosphere is unreal. I believe the attendance this night was just over 110,000 people. It got insanely loud to the point Michigan had to use one of their 3 timeouts before running a single play because they weren't able to hear anything. Then the whole game itself is like a big party. Make as much noise as possible to disrupt the opponents and then the whole crowd karaokes lots of different songs during breaks.

Not sure if anyone has said this but to explain the first play, due to Penn State’s maximum capacity and very loud crowd, the whistle was blown because of what’s called a “false start” when someone moved over the line before the ball was in play. This was because of the crowd being so loud that the players couldn’t hike the ball because they simply couldn’t hear each other from two feet away

Not sure if anyone has mentioned college “fight songs”. My freshman year sitting in the student section for the first football game, a senior behind us said: “I expect you all to learn the fight song-both verses-by the next game. I’ll be testing you.” He was NOT joking! You can hear the band and crowd with the fight song at the beginning of the game and with each score. My daughter is a freshman this year at my alma mater. I tested her on the fight song-both verses-before the first game last week. 😁

I am currently a Penn State student and am watching this video at 3:15 AM because I cannot sleep due to the excitement. This year's whiteout is tonight at 7:30 EST and without one last year, this year's will be even better. About 500 students including myself have been camping outside of the stadium in tents since Monday in preparation for this game. If you make it to one college football game in your life, I highly recommend The WHITEOUT as being that game. I've been a big fan since earlier this year and have been waiting for some sort of PSU content. This did not disappoint. Keep up the great work and you'll have to look out for some highlights or videos from tonight's game to react to.

It shows it at the end of the clip but I don’t know if you noticed- Michigan got the ball first, but they had to call a timeout before the first play of the game because the stadium was so loud. Considering they only get 3 per half and have a whole week to prepare for the start of the game, the fact that they had to do that anyways shows why everyone is so hyped and showed just how crazy the stadium was. If you want a prime example of home field advantage in football this is it

In 2016 watch the video Penn State blocks Ohio state field goal 2016. We got loud. To end game sacked QB 4 times. The coach for Ohio State said nothing compares to a White Out and he’s coached for Florida against LSU. It got so loud he thought stadium was gonna collapse. It’s something else and something that is to be experienced at least once in person

I was at that game and the video does no justice to how amazing the atmosphere is. The stadium had over 109,000 in it and there are another 30,000 tailgaters who do not have tickets to the game who watch on TVs in the parking area and then there are people who come to state college and watch the game from the local bars. The population of the town more than quadruples on game days.

As you saw in the vid (idk how much American football you know) Michigan had a false start which means basically the team couldn’t hear them selves and didn’t know when to start. We are known for doing this and will have a counter for big games. It is a crazy cool atmosphere not to mention the tailgating before the game

The stadium holds like 115,000. The town itself is 35,000 people plus 35,000 students. On game day, 115,000 people come to fill the stadium, and another 100,000 will hang out outside the stadium or in condomeniums that they own just as party pads and sports bars. The population of the town on game days is over 250,000 people. It takes 8 hours for the traffic to leave the town.

In case you weren't aware - that first play (or non-play) was a demonstration of how a home team will use crowd noise during the game. The crowd is so loud, that the quarterback is having trouble being heard by his own teammates - since he has a finite time period to start the play, he has just been penalized 5 yards for "delay of game". The players waving their arms are signaling "LOUDER" to the crowd. The crowd roar in some stadiums can exceed 100db on the field.

I love college football and I’m partial to the Florida Gators myself. I try and go to at least one home game a year. I get there early to see the pregame show and Gator Runout. Then there is the band playing “We are the Boys from Old Florida” while everyone sings a sways to it. That is followed by Tom Petty’s “Won’t Back Down”. Those two are done at the end of the 3rd quarter. College football is indeed played in the fall but you might be here for the start of Major League Soccer. Maybe you could come down to Orlando to catch a Orlando City match and possibly see Nani play here.
