This is an awesome video man. I was able to open up my 6500 that fell in the ocean, full of sand. It had been unusable for about half a year until I had some spare time today and decided to take it apart. Some parts aren't in the best condition but it seems to be working. Very much appreciated.

@@TSGReelService A very interesting video. Thank you Barry. Now I know how this fishing reel is built. What's going on inside. I have a Spinfisher 6500 LL fishing reel. The idea with the seal in the housing is awesome, I like that pretty much. I know now that the water can't get in. We've done a lot to seal the housing, so that no water can get in. Always big issues with the water, especially with salt water. Salt water can destroy everything. I seal the case with solid ceramic grease, it works fine, but quite awkward if you grease the edges of the case. It is not necessary if you have a Spinfisher reel. :-) Very good job Barry. - Jan 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😀😀😀😀🐟🐟🐟🐟

@@fischercustombaits thanks bud. The "waterproofing" can get people in trouble, though... they think the fishing reel is impervious to water and never get a serviced until it's too late. Lol

@@TSGReelService yes exactly, you are right Barry. Corrosion here, corrosion there, broken parts. It is not worth repairing the fishing reel. Spinfisher is well sealed. At 2.30 I know how to attach the line to the line keeper. That is very easy. Tomorrow I'll do a short vid and you can see on my Instagram. , ~ Jan🎣🎣👍🏼👍🏼😀😀🐟🐟🐟🐟

Great videos and explication, I'm sure your videos helped loads of people. I got two reels spinfisher VI 6500 LL and on one of them I've got exactly the same problem as you had on the previous model V on the live liner future. I bought them brand new, but when i opened the reel i found marks that someone opened the reel and he damaged the twoo o rings on the sides of the live liner future. I'm wondering if you can't advise me on how to order some spare parst for my reels? The web sites and the phone number that are coming with the reels doesn't seem to help me. Thanks

Thanks for checking out the video, Alin. Your best bet on Penn parts is mysticparts.com (there are a couple retailers too). If you can't get it through them, try eBay. If neither works, try simply packing both areas with grease.... this will create the same type of seal to get from an o-ring. Hope this helps.

Hey bro, cheers for the teardown - having an issue with my spinfisher 10500s where the drag clicker gear is spinning on the main shaft. Not sure if i can take the gear off though without breaking the assembly and having to order a new one. Do you have any idea if it is possible to break the assembly down further? Thanks

Thanks and thanks for checking out the video! For future reference, please be specific with the reel's info when asking a question about it. I'm assuming you're referring to the 10500SSVI... you'll need to replace the shaft.... it's all one piece. If someone else has another solution, please let us know.

The 6500s do not have auto trip bails. This is to prevent it from tripping mid cast when throwing larger lures. I was thrown off when I first got my 6500 but it is by design

@@jrod1077 No worries. Hopefully, it helps. I'll usually stick to flatheads unless a Phillips is specifically needed. Just remember to use downward pressure while backing out the screw.... helps avoid stripping the head.
