    Thanks for the videos. I replaced my main gear and crosswind gear on a pursuit IV 4000. Do you have any idea why it’s binding up at the top or bottom of the crosswind block’s throw? Everything else looks fine and I’m certain it’s assembled properly.

    Hi Mills, thanks for checking out the video.... it could be your shaft is bent or the shimming on your main gear..... try removing the thinnest one (then more if needed) and seeing how that feels.

    @@TSGReelService I can’t tell that the shaft is bent but it does kinda hang up. Also went ahead and ordered another main gear because it may be the wrong one. Anyways, Thank you for your help.

    @23:03 you spun the reel to get a feel if it was too tight or not. If it didn’t spin freely does that mean the crosswind gear is too tight, the rotor nut is too tight, or the housing screws are on too tight? Or would it be something else? Thank you in advance!

    Thanks for watching and noticing the details. I was checking the shimming.... sometimes, when you service your reel, you need to adjust your main gear shims (maybe taking one off) for the reel to feel smooth. Hope that helps. Spread the word about the channel.

    I have a two month old Penn Pursuit iv 2500 that spins with noticeable drag/stiffness compared to my buddies. Do you think it would be wise to follow these steps for a complete rebuild or is there something else that commonly causes this? To be honest I think it was this stiff from factory.

  • @TSGReelService

    @TSGReelService

    9 ай бұрын

    If it was stuff from the factory, you may have had a dud. Try reaching out to Penn directly to see if they'll replace it. However, it didn't start out that way (which I suspect), it's probably a bearing.... pinion or main. Could be other things, but that's the usual suspect.

    Same happened to mine. I have 2 Penn Pursuits, and both corroded very quickly on the outside, not allowing me to open them, and then both are tough to reel and skip.

    @@TSGReelService not all My gears are they’re just making a growling noise sometimes…he said I probably just aligned the gears wrong, it’s only 2 gears I believe… he’s saying I “need” to buy all new gears though… what do you think?

  • @TSGReelService

    @TSGReelService

    Жыл бұрын

    The above, although still incomplete, gives me a much better understanding of your problem. I ask for specifics because I need specifics if all I'm going on is the written word. Yes, your mg and pg are probably misaligned, and you notice a rough spot(s) when you crank. All gears wear in a certain pattern..... the longer and more you use the reel without servicing it, the more noticeable it'll be when you put them in "unaligned" after servicing the reel. I have a video that I don't think is out yet, that details this. You may not need new gears, but you also probably can't fix this yourself without a lot of trial and error, since your problem may be two fold..... shimming and alignment. So, if you want the problem to go away, best to bite the bullet and take it to him (since he either examined the reel or had a phone conversation with you)..... especially if you don't understand some of what I'm saying/referring to in this message.

That a common issue with the Pursuit, Fierce, and even Battle, if they aren't washed down well after each use... hope you have better luck with the next one.
