Penarth's Lost Railway - Penarth Heritage Project documentary
A short film produced for Penarth History Month 2018, exploring the railway footpath which heads west out of Penarth town towards Barry. Discovering the story of Penarth's lost railway, not in chronological but in geographical order, unpacks the history of the town and reveals some of its most important secrets, and serves as a walking guide for local explorers.

An excellent video with animations by Ben Salter and very good narration by Will Salter. A talented family, the Salters.
Really interesting. New to Penarth and could see from the footpaths that there was a link to Lavernock but didn't know it went beyond or cosmoston lakes history
Good project. Penarth, Alberta Place Halt. Lower Penarth, Lavernock AND St Mary’s Well Bay (the platforms had exits at each end to serve both !) Swanbridge, Sully and Cadoxton. Parts of the line below Cosmeston are still walkable if you know where to go (Sept 21). The politics behind the line’s creation are very interesting ! With the ENORMOUS housing developments planned toward Lavernock , And Cog Road Swanbridge , such a shame the trackbed wasn’t kept; potential traffic is unacceptable. Penarth Station had 3 lines running through it, 3 platforms , and a Station Master with a Gold Braided Cap !

Due to the shocking public transport options and lack of regulatory Sully and to an extent Lavernock are just not options. There is a lack of consideration for public transport when new developments go up which is ironic if we want to cut carbon footprint and be more inclusive as many people are either not able or not medically allowed to drive
Thoroughly enjoyed that. Love local history, and that line still in living memory.
excellent film thoroughly enjoyed. You could probably expand the route from Biglis bridge to document the route through to Wenvoe and include the tunnels under Culverhouse junction.
Nice one Will, guess Ben must be your dad? Please support the Rhondda Tunnel reopening. 🚂🚴♂️👣🇺🇦
Lovely piece of filming there Will and superb animations by Ben
