For anyone curious about Stephanie's Law, here's the story: In 2001, Stephanie Fuller, a resident of Bay Shore, Long Island, who surreptiously videotaped by her landlord, one William Schultz. Without Stephanie's consent or knowledge, Schultz put a small video camera in the smoke-detector that faced her bed. A line led from the camera into Schultz's own apartment, from which he both viewed and recorded the images. His crime was exposed when Stephanie's boyfriend noticed suspicious wires coming out of the smoke-detector. The couple called the police, and Schultz was arrested. Because New York State's "Peeping Tom" laws only covered the use of a camera or other device to "peer" through a window, Schultz was charged and convicted with trespassing instead of "video voyeurism." In other words, had he been convicted of entering Stephanie's apartment and placing a wad of gum (rather than a video camera) on the smoke-detector, his punishment would have been the same: a $1,500 fine, probation for one to three years, and 280 hours of community service. Fuller believed that Schultz got off easy, and campaigned for harsher penalties, and Stephanie's Law was signed into law on 23 June 2003.

This video had an interesting point to make about male victims of sexual assault. I used to think that these days it’s a crime that is more generally acknowledged as something that actually happens. Then my mother, who is a medical examiner for assault victims told me about a case she had where the victim was a male who was gang banged. The part about it that ticked me off was when she told me that the cop handling the case asked her point blank if she really thinks the guy was raped. Just because the statistics say that more women are victims of sexual assault than males, that doesn’t mean that the numbers are entirely true. All they actually record are the numbers of cases where women were brave enough to come forward. For men, they don’t come forward, why? Because for them it is especially embarrassing to admit that they were assaulted. Especially if the perpetrator was a woman. That may sound sexist, but it’s the truth, people do not believe that women are capable of such heinous crimes. It’s utterly sickening to know that despite how far we’ve come as a society that such a fact like men can be victims too is not generally accepted by society. Sexual assault, can happen to anyone. And heaven forbid that they come forward about it and then get ridiculed or seen as less for it. These victims, they deserve better.

Anyone who knows anything at all about video and television at the time knows in production terms they simply recorded a good quality image then reduced the quality with filters and compression.

When I first this episode back then I wondered weather or not if pedophile was really to call her. Why I say this? She was crazy with her husband, sexually assaulted the 12 year old, and sexually assaulted Elliot Stabler. Considering that she would assault just about anyone, kid or adult, is she really a pedophile because she was not assaulting little boys exclusively. I could be wrong though.
