You would want to see a pediatric podiatrist. pediatricfootankle.com/what-is-a-pediatric-podiatrist/ If there are no pediatric podiatrists in your area, then a podiatrist would be your second choice. A podiatrist is a doctor that specializes in foot and ankle conditions. A pediatric podiatrist specializes in children's foot and ankle conditions. Hope that helps!

Thank you for watching our video and sharing your experience. Getting a podiatric or orthopedic consult would be appropriate to determine where the torsion is originating. You are right thinking it could be coming from an area other than your foot or ankle. Hope this helps.

Hi i am 15 years old and I am a pigeon toed walker and I often have pain in my knees and I am wondering what kind of help I could get or if I need help at all. All I know is that I often stumble at my own feet and have a lot of knee pain :)

If you are experiencing pain, a consult with a pediatric podiatrist would be helpful. They can determine where the torsion is coming from and help address the condition. Something to discuss with your parents. Thanks for watching our video.

OMG. I wish I knew this earlier or have researched it earlier. Now they are 12 and 8. It is too late to do anything??? Please help.

Thank you for watching our video. Having your children evaluated by a pediatric podiatrist or an orthopedic provider would be an appropriate first step. Learning where the torsion is originating from (hip, lower leg or foot) will help in determining a plan of care.

I noticed my daughter intoeing as a newborn. I asked her peds doc does she have Metatarsus Adductus. She confirmed with photos with ortho. She's 7mths now. Her original pediatrician said usually don't start treatment until 6mths. But moved to a new peds doc, and she said don't really know until start walking. I see her move her feet in and out. Should I press the issue of bracing now?

  • @PediatricFootAnkle

Thanks for your comment! 6 months is appropriate for intervention, bones are still growing and developing in which will respond better with bracing techniques- I like to use prefabricated bracing vs a hard cast brace. Please see a podiatrist in your area to be evaluated! -Dr. Jarman

Thank you for watching our video. It sounds likely this is a structural issue. Conservative measures are unlikely to correct the condition. Seeing a specialist who could recommend a viable care plan would benefit you in the knowledge of the condition and what is possible. At age 6 Metatarsus Adductus would be treatable, but unfortunately cannot be fixed. We treat the condition with orthotics that have gait plates to aid in the prevention of the child tripping. In the future, as an adult, if the condition continues to be a problem, this can be addressed with surgical intervention.

Thanks for your comments. Intoning is such a hard one to truly treat as there are many different sources of the into and treatment protocols are not so straight forward. The vast majorty of kids do improve or resolve over time, however there are lots of kids who do not. .. Treatments are not complicated, just depends on the age and severity. Keep trying to voice your concern, or get a second opinion. Thanks, Dr. Jarman
