    I like that you didn't run this amp through a DAW and process the sound. I don't know why people do that when previewing amps. A raw direct sound of the real tone is what people need to hear when deciding what amp to buy.

    I've been using mine with my hx stomp in 4CM and it's a game changer for me. I can put reverb, delay, and an EQ etc and more importantly, I can change the pre amp. I pretty much always have the master boost on, seems to sound a lot better. I just need a 2X12 with V30's. I'm using a Peavey 2X12 with Greenbacks. They sound ok.. a little fizzy tbh. I'm curious to try the matching 2X12 cab for the Invective (Creamback and V30). Awesome playing brotha

    Unfortunately, even in 2024, a whole lot of uninformed people watching newer and equally uninformed videos are still missing this detail regarding the master boost and then spreading falsehoods about the amp sounding too thin compared to the 6505 when with that feature activated, it’s every bit as good if not slightly better.

    I own a Peavey MiniHead and it sounds great as it is... there's no need to use any overdrive pedal in front. Even with EL84 power tubes it has a lot of punch. The only think I don't like is the Gate. I prefer a T.C. Electronic Sentry Noise Gate into the Effets Loop... to me it's more efficient.

    This amp require a lot of dialing, and tinkering ime, compared to my BE 50 deluxe for ex, which can't be made to sound bad imo. I find the master boost just ups the volume, you can get really good tone by really dialing the pre/post gains and master volume just right. I find it doesn't wake up at lower volumes like a really high end amp though.

    I paused video for moment to comment. Have to be honest, i think this amp sounds pretty good in this video. I like the old Aerosmith sound i hear on the record's. And to me, this gives maybe a better than jcm 800 overdrive distortion tones. I like that "grit" in the tone. Like the speakers can still breathe and not just a bunch of bottom end over compressed sound. I use a couple different pedals for boost just to brighten the midrange to stand out. Damn, i might have to investigate this amp.

  • @mikeflanders1292
    @mikeflanders12923 жыл бұрын

    Love your channel man. Only thing I gotta criticize tho, is... I don't know how you can decide if you like the tone by sitting so close to your cab. You don't know how your amp/cab/ etc even sounds when you're that close. I've found that you have to be at least 12' away from a 4x12 to even get an idea how your rig sounds. Anyway, keep up the good content, and congrats on getting some sponsors!

  • @belligerentamateur

    @belligerentamateur

    Thanks man! To your comment, more of a subjective and personal preference thing. There really is no rule of thumb. There is no "true" spot or rule of thumb where you need to be positioned to judge what you're hearing. What you're hearing will change drastically by moving just a few inches or degrees around the cab. When I'm playing out, I'm usually never directly in front of my cab, and only a very small percent of the audience is directly in front of my cab, while most of the audience will be off to one side or another, by varying degrees. I can tell what's going by sitting where I sit pretty easily.

    Hands down, best amp I’ve ever owned. Had em all.. mesa’s, all the peavey’s, marshall’s, framus, diesel, etc… this one does all of them. Stupidly versatile and so so many features.. it’s ridiculous. Will never play another amp again. You gotta do some homework on these and lots of tinkering though. If you’re not into that, you should stop playing. Pro tip (like homeboy said): Turn the master boost in the back of the amp all the way up and engage it. Now turn the master on the front of the amp all the way up. Now just use your post for volume. For the boost on the front of the amp, turn it on like you would use a tube screamer.. same with the on board gate.. max it out. If there’s amp noise (not pickup noise) slap a cheap suppressor or gate in the fx loop in the back. Dead silent and doesn’t steal tone. If anyone is confused HMU. I got the scoop

    I had one of the first Invectives in germany and i brought it back to the shop after 2 months. Its not a bad amp at all but i still was dissapointed because i did not get what i was hoping for and all my other Peaveys (5150/6534+/TripleXXX) just sounded way better. I hated the Gate..for me it was always too much or not much enough..i didnt like the internal boost...the Clean channel was too dark to me so i had the treble almost crancked. The Resonance was weired..the Presence too harsh and yes i had the post gain pretty high to make the Amp thicker and less harsh. I bought it mainly because of the features Clean..Gate...Boost..and these just didnt work for me so there was no point to me in keeping it...

    This amp sorely needs a 50 watt, half-size version akin to the EVH 5150 III 50 way. The full size head isn't great for musicians on the local circuit and some of the features on the 120 are overkill. The 20 is too hampered by the EL84s and packs a few to many features. I would definitely try/buy an Invective 50.

    Mr. Bull, you were caught by Peavey's design flaw. It's not ness. user error, like not knowing before purchase that your Ford needed the engine removed for $4000 to...replace the water pump. I was caught by the same nonsense on my Peavey Ultra Plus head. Design flaw all the way. The footswitch is supposed to augment the system by providing ease of access. If the switch is not free with purchase, then EA has taught Peavey the art of paying for more content.

    Yeah if the amp needs a bunch specific features set a certain way to sound like a normal amp, I'd argue the amp can only be considered worse than it's brethren without those issues. Like a master boost that needs to be set a certain way to sound good is no longer a master boost, just a switch that can ruin the amp. You can make some arguments post-gain and master volume balancing is a tonal feature, but it does sound like people agree to set it a certain way to get the amp to work correctly. I dunno, it is a 5150 with the built in boost, noise gate, and actual clean channel, but if that's worth the price for a china made amp? That will be tonally ruined if you don't have the footswitch plugged in? Oof, that's a big ask

  • @belligerentamateur

    @belligerentamateur

    3 жыл бұрын

    IT's really just the master boost not being accessible without the footswitch that is the downfall, IMO. People mention Master vs Channel, and it does make a difference, as it does with most amps with that volume configuration, but I also think people overblow it
