I had a similar experience with my cancer. I was going thru recovery and physical rehab that happened to coincide with the Summer '08 tour. I would eagerly await the release of the bootlegs a day or two after the shows and I would listen to them while I pushed through the pain in my workouts/rehab. The lyrics and band energy gave me the strength to push through the pain and suffering. There were many times I wanted to stop or give up completely or even cut my sessions short but PJ helped me through it all!! I hope you are well!

"Lost nine friends we'll never know... twenty years ago today." I was there, 14 years old and up front by the stage. Right before the show started my big brother moved us further back beacuse he though something was off, possibly saving our lives.

Me too. They are always there. I first saw them in the early 90s, they opened for Soundgarden at the Bronco Bowl in Dallas. An old bowling alley with a theater that was razed decades ago. One of the best shows I have ever seen.

Camelia Militaru in June fron the Year 2000, Pearl Jam was going to play in the Roskilde festival in Denmark. The fans where so euphoric that when the band come up to Stage, all the people start to running forward to stage, causing so much preassure that end crushing the people on front. 9 people died that night. This song is dedicated to them and the line 'lost 9 friend we all never know 2 years ago today' is a homage to them (the song was relased in 2002)

All these people complaining about his hair and how his guitar is flat, who cares, 9 people lost there's lives in 2000 at Roskidle and this is their tribute to them, have some respect

Probably one of the best songs and performances taking into account they really played live!

This song is about people who lost their lives at Roskilde, and all I see here are people bitching about a hair length. I was at Roskilde.

PJ as Grunge's Deepest Band? Quite possibly! Love their solution to the Video Imagery Prob: just show the band, and a surprisingly interesting show it is, from watching a good drummer in action to Eddie "Can you say INTENSITY" V's brooding demeanor. This band "means it": there's nothing phony or commercial going on here, and there's something simple and refreshing about that. The organ lead-in creates a nice mood, bookended by that great, subdued vocal passage at the end. Well done, guys!

Yes so sad about the 9 people that died and also the people that got injured, everyone in Pearl Jam were heartbroken 😔💔😥 I remember watching the concert, R.I.P. EVERYONE THAT DIED!! Makes me cry every single time I hear this song and what Pearl Jam went through to get this beautiful and heartbreaking song!!

Cause to the universe I don't mean a thing there's just one word that I still believe in and it's LOVE

I know the band felt deeply sorrowful about the loss of those lives, and I think this is a very appropriate musical response.
