Turned 50 this year. serious survivor's guilt.

It was emotional to see Jeff and Stone playing this song. I cannot imagine the memories they went through. And Matt singing during the intro, and Mike in the solo, and Eddie... well Eddie is so incredible. Thanks, PJ for this.

The death of Andy wood had a different impact that of Kurt Cobain because Kurt was a success when he killed himself. Wood died when he was about to become great. This song haunts you more than any Nirvana song in my opinion.

He's introduced many things that weren't what it was all about. To this day PJ remain true to it. The rawness of Nirvana is long gone. Kurt would be fucking rolling...

shit man that's deep. Seeing the Pearl Jam guys and Eddie do this song must be very emotional for anybody who knew Andy. Hell I didn't know him , just a huge fan of his. but wow what a great cover and awesome moment for the PJ boys.

I heard only the Crown of Thorns before this, with Eddie saying "this one predates the band, actually". The addition of Chloe Dancer on this performance fills the cup of emotion to the brim and allows it to spill over the sides. So incredibly powerful and beautiful!

Still listening in 2019. Still thinking about Andrew. It has been 29 years since his departure and his voice still echoes.....still haunts.... He would be proud of this homage.

Eddie does it with respect. and kicks ass along the way..

McCreedy, Gossard, and Ament miss Andy a lot and Eddie knows that it's his spot he filled when everyone thought once Andy passed that their careers were over. So this is Eddie paying his respect and letting him know he remembers that he was a big reason that Eddie and the guys are where their at now and have had the careers they've had. And plus it probably makes the band members feel great and young for a few minutes by paying tribute. Maybe even closing their eyes and drifting back momentaril

He might have been better able to sing it 10 years before this show, but I don't think he (and maybe Stone & Jeff) was emotionally ready, Eddie in the sense of "getting" Andy's legacy, Stone and Jeff in the sense of having lost so much when he died.

Two members of PJ were in MLB, Stone Gossard & Jeff Ament. After Andrew died, they formed a band named Mookie Blaylock, named after the NBA player (hence the PJ album title "Ten", Mookie's jersey number) with Eddie.. they later changed the name to Pearl Jam. 👍

Eddie has the ability to make any cover he does basically his. Awesome tallent

Holy crap!! I've always loved this song but this is the first time ive seen this performance and I'm completely blown away..sung with so much feeling..freakn magical!!!

I am truly sorry for the loss you have suffered. There aren't any words to heal you, only that you are blessed to have known real love. To quote from a movie I never thought I would: 'Men In Black'; Will Smith says " It is better to have loved and than to never have loved at all.", Tommy Lee Jones responds " TRY IT." That is the best way I have heard anything that is close to touching the feeling that is the ultimate price we pay for loving. I would much rather know that pain then living a lifetime of never being so lucky. All of my love 💖 and strength 💪 to you! Don't forget that there ks always room for loving again. Please if you read this , my advice comes from experience and mistakes that I wish I could have avoided, the worst of which is closing my heart to any other love. You will never feel exactly what have for the love you lost, but there are beautiful people who have love that is wonderful, and it is so hard to look back and realize how much you have missed out on. Please let love heal you, not replacing anything that you have lost, just letting the person who you are now be love and to love in return.

Great music never dies, it lives on through others. Music is to be shared. Im pretty sure Andy, like the great musician he was, would want his music to live on. And who would fit better to pass on this musical masterpiece than the band that rose from the ashes of mother love bone? PS. If anyone has the right to play this song it`s Pearl Jam, and they perform it in a great and humble fashion as a tribute to Andy.

i wasn't expecting to love this version so much, since vedder's voice is so different from wood's. but the way vedder sings this, is just so beautiful. i almost like this version better.

But that twang bluesy style almost raunchy and filthy alley vibe in andrews voice is what made this song...eddie did justice in his style (pearl jam)...but Andrew just had that grimey voice...

This is only the second time I've heard this song, first with Andy, then this one right after. Eddie's version brought me to tears--he sang it so beautifully (I like his voice better in general), and hearing it right after listening to the original version and seeing the MLB guys and wondering what they were thinking just got to me.

Eddie, working at a club, became friends with a drummer in a band that was performing , Jack Irons. One time few months later, Jack plays A tape of a band that’s looking for a drummer, he declines but mentions to ed they are also looking for a singer, so ed takes the tape of demos, goes off and surfs a bit, and then writes a song called Alive. The rest is history.

I've been a MLB fan since about '89. So much so that I named my firstborn after this song. I've seen Pearl Jam in concert more than any other band, but haven't followed them much in more recent years. This is a good version though. I feel like Eddie really put his stamp on it. Gonna share it with my daughter as she's fans of both bands as well.

Pearl Jam can perform ANYTHING admirably, and although no one can sing this iconic opus like its late composer Andrew Wood, Eddie Vedder did so with genuine reverence and impassioned graciousness. And I have never seen Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard look so grieving an yet so enraptured. If guitars were the instruments of prayer, their sounds here reached out infinitely to gently touch the hand of their beloved brother, Andrew Wood.

You ARE aware that Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament were members of Mother Love Bone, right? I think that gives them the right to retain privileges, since, you know, they own the songs. Andrew's death (rest his soul) led to the formation of Pearl Jam.

Eddie met them on the Temple of the Dog album with Chris Cornell , this was the Andrew Wood tribute album , and Mother Love Bone Became Pearl Jam with Eddie then! So yes Pearl Jam is what Mother Love Bone became , they have the musical rights to play all of the catalog. Still never be the same with out Andy!

@@DrakeSpidey jeff and stone were the only members from mother love bone. Jack irons recommended Eddie as vocals when they decided to form a band after Andy's death. He was down there to start work as the new band that would become pearl jam. Temple of the dog was chris Cornell's tribute to Andy as chris and Andy were room mates and they invited Eddie to join in the tribute.
