Jamie Sykes Review's Pearl's awesome compact traveler - a very reasonably priced, incredibly fun acoustic kit which (as the name suggests) is incredibly easy to transport!

Hey, thanks for this overview. I've noticed something by the wall. It looks like a 16" bass drum from breakbeats kit cut in a half to make one of that skinny bass drums for street playing. What is that?

Howdy mate, it is just a standard Breakbeats kick but the gopro positioning makes the depth look super unusual for some reason!

Thank you for the review! I am planning on getting one. I wanted to know, how loud is it compared to an acoustic set. Is it somewhat playable in an appartement? Thanks!

Hi Oeter, real nice of you to get in touch! Yeah, it has served me really well for a good few open mics now - obviously not as crisp as a full kit, but definitely does the job for relatively casual stuff! I got the Yamaha EAD10 recently, so considering doing a review for that! Sending happiness and good will from Notiingham, England!

I just got the kit! The first issue I've run into is my snare wire. It's started bending outwards...so my snare sounds like a tom...do you have any suggestions for this? The wires are bent upwards from the constant hitting.

What are your cymbals? I have a shell-less drum kit like this and I feel my cheapo cymbals are way too loud for it. Do you know what kind of cymbals I should get by any chance? I play in a small room and I want to play my cymbals with out ear protection as you did in this vid. Thx, cheers.

In this video I am using 13" Zildjian K Custom Dark hats and a Dream Bliss 18" ride - The bliss is great, it can be insanely loud but it all depends on how you use it. It can take a little getting used to, but offers a real range of textures. I would always recommend ear protection though. I have been a bit lazy and have avoided using it for years, but am now starting to notice my hearing getting far worse.

Yeah it sounds great how is the volume compared to acoustic guitar and vocals without a microphone? Gave you a sub for sure 👍

  • @SykesDrums

Hey there Uncle Dan! Thanks very much for the sub! It is certainly a far lower volume than any other kit I've played on recently and I had an acoustic jam with some hotrods on it a few days a go - it was ideal.

@@SykesDrumsHowdy from Texas 🤠👍 man thanks for the reply. I'm definitely considering one. I scored a used Kat percussion pad for $50 bucks and you can plug a kick pedal and hi hat controller in it. The pad has 4 triggers. I'll setup as snare hat tom and crash. So I'm hoping that works out. It's shipped just waiting for it.

Not sure if you'll see this comment, but biggest question for me. I'm a double bass drummer, would my double pedal kit cause this to collapse? Let me know your thoughts.

My pearl compact kit arrived but it seems to have a major defect. The largest vertical bar is bent to the left. Do you know/have you used pearl customer care before? Have you ever needed to return something? I'm pretty disappointed.

Can you tell me how loud is this kit? I'm living in a small apartment and I'm planning to buy this kit with low volume symbals and I would like to play the kit without disturbing my neighbours.
