Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue

Joe travelled to visit Mark Meyers at the Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue headquarters in San Angelo, Texas.
Mark share his and his wife's story about starting this non-profit.
Amy brought the first donkey home and they fill in love with her, Izzy. They continued to add to the herd.
At one time they were hired by the Texas Parks and Wildlife to capture some wild donkeys and ended up as a show on Texas Country Reporter. The rescue endeavor just blew up after that. Now the largest equine rescue in the world. They operate in the lower 48, Hawaii and Caribbean. Over 30 satellite facilities. They can be anywhere in the country in 48 hours. Have 4 rigs going most all the time, which can haul 30-40 donkeys at once.
Donkey adoption fees do not pay for the cost. Non-profit with only public support. No tax payer dollars are used in this business.
Wild burrow captures (where they would otherwise be killed), abused animals,
Sanctuaries are 500+ acres. They place 100-200 donkeys in these environments and care for them as they are not suitable for adoption.
Benefits of Donkeys:
Donkeys are like dogs. They are loyal, protective, protect herds.
they have a bad stereotypes.
Don't show pain - stoic.
Do well in hot temperatures (ears help cool).
Go a long time without water
Smart and functional
America stopped using donkeys in the 1900's . Built the railroads where other animals could not get to.

Thank you for caring for the donkeys. ❤ I love them.
We rescued 2 donkeys from peaceful valley rescue a year ago and they are absolutely wonderful. We love them!
I’ve been giving to this organization for years. I don’t know why. I live in New York and haven’t seen a donkey but I do love them. Thank God for this place
I travel around Wharton County looking for donkeys. Love them. Checking on them, giving them treats. I support your efforts.
God bless you all
They are sweet beautiful gentle little souls

the from peaceful valley for a recent donation. This is the first time I’ve watched their video. So glad I did.I’m so impressed with their work that I plan to set up a monthly donation.
A very helpful in-person interview with Mark Meyers.
Thanks for sharing 😃👍
Preparing to train my 3 year old jenny to harness, and I'm really enjoying Rural Heritage videos! It would be wonderful to have a few videos focused on donkeys, even giving one some draft training time with an experienced trainer, to give those of us who care for them and keep farmfamilys some insight into their use. As a woman homestead keeper, my donkeys really fit my size, budget and goals. (No donkeys also means no mules!) My two jennies are amazing blessings, and I know so many love and value them like I do! Thanks for highlighting donkey rescue, too!
Thank you for saving them 😍
Thank you, enough said.
That was very interesting :-)
The first part of my post didn’t show up. I started by saying that I had received a lovely thank you note from them.
I would be interested to know your thoughts on keeping a pair of donkeys for paid (LED) donkey rides for children - like they do here in UK on some beaches and so on. Good idea or bad? Also: 'meet and greet' the donkeys as a little (paid) treat for kids (supervised by our own donkey handlers of course). Is that a good idea? If the kids give them little titbits (supplied by us of course!) - is that good or bad for these animals??
Do you have a presence in Arkansas? My granddaughter lost her donkey a couple of months ago, and her horse is lonely. All the donkey would have to do is graze and keep the horse company.
I would like to be of help . How can we get together ?
