I was playing around with trying to get around the dialogue of the Han cutscene and/or flying above the trench. Made some interesting finds but ultimately it only delays the mission failed.

Why did it fail? I thought it would’ve succeeded.

I think its like this: If you fly above the trench, the game ques the dialogue then a game over. If you do something like activate the Han trigger (or other dialogue triggers) they get added to the que after the current dialogue before the game end. Unfortunately, completing the mission objective does not interrupt the game end, I have not found anything that does.
