Unfortunately without provenance it's unlikely that a newly found tin type will ever be accepted as the real deal. There have been photos in recent years that have been matched by computer facial recognition to the one famous Billy the Kid tin type, but since it isn't possible to trace their ownership, they aren't generally accepted as authentic Billy the Kid pictures - just really old pictures of some unidentified dude. That said, I know this is a tv show, but expecting the museum guy to just walk in and make a positive identification with the naked eye is pretty laughable.

One of the Robin Hood stories, == Jesse and his brother came upon a nice log cabin and ask the lady inside if she would mind if they watered their horses. She said of course and also said that if they were hungry they were welcome to join her for lunch. While they were eating she sat down with them and began to cry. Asking what was the matter she told them that her husband had died six months earlier, was unable to make the mortgage payments, and that the banker was coming in a few hours to foreclose on the cabin. Asking how much she owed she showed them the contract. They calculated not only what was past due but also the amount remaining on the mortgage. Jesse told his brother to go to the saddle bag and take out that amount. They told her to pay the banker and make sure he gave her a signed receipt stating that the mortgage was paid in full. They finished their meal, thanked the lady for her kindness, who was crying again with great gratitude, and rode away. When the banker was returning from the lady's cabin, going back to town, Jesse and his brother were waiting for him, robbed him of the money, and sent the banker on his way.

Many of the comments talk about using facial recognition software to examine the photos further, but I think this is a case where it will be almost impossible to prove the photos are of the famous outlaws. The software could probably rule out a match if the eyes, ears, etc. didn't match, but even if they did match, you still just could have a couple of dudes that look like the James brothers. There is probably not enough photographic evidence to match the photos beyond a doubt. Having said that, what are the chances these are photos of the James brothers? Very slim, for sure, no way this guy is ever seeing a big payday, unfortunately for him.

The expert wasn't knowledgeable when saying that a person's nose and ears don't change at all. They do. Acromegaly is a disorder in adults in which the pituitary gland produces too much growth hormone. It affects the face(large nose and ears, protruding jaw), hands and feet. Other areas are affected as well.

Every single time they say I’m gonna call in an expert, Rick first asks the guy how much he’s looking for, then coincidentally the expert says they’re worth the same amount. It’s because when Rick makes that phone call in the back of the shop he tells the expert what the guys looking for price wise.. moral of the story never say how much you want first.. wait till the “expert” looks the item over… that guy with the cowboy hat actually had no idea if they were real or not, sounded like a guess to me.. one ear is higher then the other, ya ok buddy. LESSON #1: Always, always write down the names of the people in your photos, the date, and the place the photo was taken. Preferably ON the back of the photo for film/paper and tin photos; otherwise in the same box or frame with the photo. Original provenance identification is critical to have 100 years later, even for the family and descendants.

So...my cousins farm in Minnesota...we were told as kids...Frank and Jesse stayed the night in the barn there. A few days later..a posse came looking for them.. It was a favorite place to play when we went on vacation
