@eric burhed You need to understand something though. If it doesn't sell at an auction, they will put it in the shop. Having 225,000 in one item from a business standpoint makes no sense at all. The only way that would make sense is if they were a super high end dealer, or if they were exclusively selling one particular type of item, such as game trophies, or coins. And if they don't sell it still, they will have to wait for another auction, not just that pertains to the item, but one with high end collectors. I've been to a couple of auctions, and they are not high end whatsoever

If you do a google search there's an article about this trophy. As of June 2019 it was still for sale and had a 500K reserve on ebay. The shady part of it is that the listed seller was the company that the "expert" they just called on this video owns. So basically either the expert ended up making a deal with the seller after this was filmed or this whole skit was set up so the expert could drum up interest in an item that he is having trouble selling. I'm guessing the latter.

I'm sure there are some extremely wealthy people who really are into horse racing. There only has to be a single guy willing to pay $500k for it to be worth that price. It's irrelevant that 99.99% of people aren't interested in it at that price tag. And the seller just got a ton of exposure by being on the show.

n February of 2018 the Triple Crown trophy re-surfaced at Heritage Auctions and was originally offered for $225,000.00. That was lowered to a reserve of $125,000.00 which was never met. Subsequently, the consigner “unknown owner” took the trophy back. It recently showed up on an episode of Pawn Stars.J
