Fischer is somewhat of a tragic hero. A brilliant mind whose obsession clouds his social and mental health, which is worsened by the pressure thrust upon him by the political powers of the time, using him as a pawn in their own game.

Regardless of what part of the game we want to call it, it was masterful for sure. But the thing that blows my mind every time I play this game out on my old board and pieces is how utterly perfect Fischer’s positioning is at move 19 after he trades in his remaining knight. To make 19 moves against a very very great player and have it come out looking like an exact design of what you’d want to moving into the remainder … that is just breathtaking. Breathtaking. And to see it on an actual board with actual pieces so you can see the weight and density of Fischer’s perfectly solid positioning vs the haphazard array of Spassky - materially still equal at that point as I recall, but one man has drawn an Escher while the other is finger-painting.

According to the book, "Bobby Fisher Goes To War" the crowd stood first & began to applaud Bobby's win, then started to chant "Bobby Bobby Bobby". Spassky rose adding his applause. I guess it makes a better story to have Boris applaud first, & of course the game wasn't televised. Bobby fought an on-going battle to keep the cameras out. What a loss to chess history!

I'm glad the Film exists, and I liked a couple little parts, but given my appreciation for the Director, who made two fine Films with Glory and Blood Diamond, and my love for this Actor, who has done wonderful work ever since The Ice Storm, I am surprised that this Film didn't take advantage of the many interesting events within the life of Fischer or, if they wanted to simply focus on a period of his life, why they didn't do things differently....They weren't thinking of the audience and how for those in the know, to say Game 6 was the decisive Game of the Match is ridiculous, and for us to have to listen to commentators discuss Fischer's Sicilian and how he is not using it when he is playing White, and it's a defense they are referring to, or when, they say that no one can figure the moves of this Game out, which quickly transposed into a Tartakower Variation on the Queen's Gambit....It's insulting to us all and that bums me out....I mean, the movie should have been twice as long as it is and the production team should have had some consultants in order to correct minor, nagging errors. There are great little moments, like when Ivanov is incorrectly called the third best, and Fischer says "fourth," but that moment is ruined by the other actor repeating the line for emphasis, as though we the audience didn't get how odd and cool it was the first time around.... The Documentary had problems, I think, but was better. I believe the best Doc on Fischer is the BBC doc that discusses the Match, and - whatever, do yourself a favor and check it out, it's from 1992 (immediately after the rematch, I believe).

If I heard correctly, the commentator says Fischer has *abandoned* the Sicilian, not played it. But you're right, that too doesn't make sense as Fischer was playing White. Maybe what they meant was to say that Fischer had *avoided* the Sicilian, nullifying Spassky's preparation. Also it could just be that the filmmakers decided Sicilian sounds way sexier than English.

I am talking about the game, which Bobby Fischer played in 1972 against Borris Spassky. Game 6 of the world championship match between them, I mean. This game, is also called the "game of the century". I watched this game in the movie" Pawn Sacrifice" and on "Agmadator's KZread Channel". First I thought, Bobby Fischer; did some kind of magic. I watched the video again, then I understood what happened. What distinguishes Bobby Fischer from other players, is his ability; to play chess on three or four fronts. Most of the chess players, play a chess game; on one or two fronts. But this guy could play chess on three fronts, and he did that in the game. Spassky or no one infact anticipated that. Even Gary Kasporav or Magnus Carlsen, don't play on three fronts; simultaneously. And Fischer was not just playing on three fronts, his pieces were co-ordinated and we'll supported too; even then. Good game, Bobby Fischer.

White plays e4 and if black replies with c5 then the opening is called Sicilian opening and the defense that black chooses to play is Sicilian defense. Sicilian is best defense for e4 and this is what Fischer avoided with c4. It is okay to have these confusions and rather than embarrassing the person who asked this, try to explain and answer that question(@Harold Mondragon). I am learning chess(I said learning because no one will ever finish learning chess) on my own and I know the difficulty. It is okay to ask these doubts. I liked the film, but I think it was a missed opportunity to bring the audience in to the games by not teaching the rudiments of chess somewhere in the film and showing the games in more detail, possibly just the endings, probably be a much longer film, but I reckon it'd work. .

I haven't seen this movie, but please tell me that this has been edited to focus more on the people. If this is how the scene actually goes in the movie, then all the emotional weight of it is neutered by the fact that we don't get a good look at the game itself, and thus have no idea why people are reacting the way they are.

There have been times where they tried to do matches based on first to a specific number of wins, draws not counting, but the problem is that the matches went on forever. Alekhine - Capablanca, 1927, was first to 6 wins and lasted 34 games. Then in 1984, they tried to use the same format for the first Kasparov - Karpov match, and it had to be abandoned after 48 games. They haven't tried it since.

👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻 Everyone Enjoys the story of "Rags to Riches" & I am not Immune to this Disclosure, either ....... Therefore, I give you a Real Life Story of a Guy named "BOBBY FISCHER", The 11th World Chess Champion & my Favourite, who starts as a Nobody, Fights against all odds by Bulldozing the World's Greatest Chess Players of his Time who crosses his Path to make it "BIG" in the Chess World which catches even the Attention of the WORLD to take a Notice of his Gigantically Amazing Feat ! This Movie will definitely improve your understanding of Chess & probably you might even play this Royal 64 Square Board Game ! My favourite Scene (From 15:06 min to 15:23min) where the Mentor says to Bobby --- How are You Feeling ? Bobby Replies," I am Ready! It's my "TIME"! (: ☺ Now, That's "CONFIDENCE"! Fischer is a kind of a Person who is more Perspicuous through his Actions than in words though his Demeanor was Intimidating & Unsocial because his Early life was Enmesh due to the Broken Home ! In short, This Movie is about A Poor Guy from Brooklyn against the whole SOVIET Empire! After the Excruciating Contention, Most of the Chess Masters are in Concurrence that Bobby Fischer is indeed the Best Chess player amongst all the other Best Chess players in the World till date. So, Are you going to give a shot to this Movie en masse with your Pal❓ 👍😇😇
