    i love paul but i don't respect it - gadd has no writing credit on the song so he doesn't get royalties on "one of the most sampled drum parts"

    50 Ways is one of the best songs ever written. So unique, so smart. Somehow it seems so obvious, but if you gave me 50 million years, I couldn't have written it. Unlike almost all people called "musical genius", Paul is the real deal.

    When the musician (in this case drummer) adds something to a song (someone else wrote) that becomes an iconic part of how that song is heard and experienced by the public. This is a good example.

    You have to hand it to Stern and his crew. I’ve listened to several shorts from this interview and the number of samples they had at-the-ready to “illustrate” the part of a song Paul Simon was speaking about was impressive. Especially being able to find that specific sample and play it when needed.

    Stern also has very, very good sound technicians and mixes for musical performances. It must be a steady, well paying job in that field.

    It's my favourite groove of all time. Written and performed by my favourite drummer of all time. I'd recommend all drummers learn it. It unlocks a whole bunch of cool ideas.

    Stuck in boarding school wearing uniform Terylene grey trousers with the backside shined glossy by the wooden desk seats, listening on a tiny shirt pocket sized Grundig 9 volt transistor, I thought Paul was singing "You don't need to be corduroyed." I thought "Please God, yes I do!"

    That’s a tough one. Lyrically I’d give it to Dylan, but musically to Simon. McCartney inches ahead musically, but would put Simon ahead lyrically. Hard call on all, though, these are the greats.
