When I was in the Navy we were coming back from deployment and we were approaching San Diego Harbor about 15 minutes out. This song got played over the ship's 1MC system and nobody said a word anywhere on the ship while this song played. Keep in mind, this was 300+ guys, getting ready to see friends and loved ones after a 6 month deployment. Everybody busy as hell because just about everyone has a job to do when we pull in. Everyone just did what they had to do silently. I was walking from the stern to the bow of the ship so I passed guys in every part of the ship. Not a word. First and last time I ever heard that entire crew quiet for that long. Total magic.

It's amazing how he's kept his voice.
If we had more Simon or Simon and Garfunkel, we would be a better world. Thank you Paul. Thank you for the beauty and love and respect you put back in music. If this world is still around 20 or 30 years from now, they better hope they are still listening to the best music ever written.
Thank you, dear Paul Simon, for the beautiful songs you have given to us for so many years. I think you’re a genius, a humble genius.

Still gives me a goosebump to see a legend influencing my music preference since 40 years ago performing without a glitch. You’re truly a legend Paul
Dear Paul Simon, I would like to take a moment to tell you what role you have played in my life. Robert Douglass is my name, and here's my story. When I reached my prime I left my home for Hong Kong (it was just a band tour). The year was 1986 and I had never heard of Simon and Garfunkel, but I bought my first Walkman and one cassette. Since I didn't know any records at all, I reached for Bridge over Troubled Water, for no reason. Yet, when I listened to it, I was overcome with the most powerful feelings of homesickness and longing for my mother that I have ever experienced. It took me a long time to understand what had happened, but I became a fan. Then, on a family vacation, with six stressed travelers in a tent, tensions were high, and the bickering was starting. It was dark and we were trying to fall asleep, but everyone was just so agitated. I was 16 at the time, and I turned up my Walkman all the way to the song So Long Frank Lloyd Wright. I held up the headphones so that everyone could hear the music, if they strained their ears. Slowly, everyone in the family tuned in, and listened to the wisp of the song until the end. I stopped the tape and we fell asleep in peaceful silence. As a young professional I took upon the task of writing a book about software. It was a hard task for me as focusing on "homework" like assignments has never been my strong suit. I needed to concentrate on the texts for hours a day and it was extremely difficult. The only thing - and I truly mean the ONLY thing - that I found I could do to make my mind focus, was to put on the album "Paul Simon" and listen to Duncan on repeat. For whatever reason, that song meant I could focus on my writing. The book was a success. I'd never be able to write one now, but you helped me through it. And now, on June 18, 2020, you release this beautiful video. I'm an ageing man. I'll turn 50 soon. But I've been learning to sing, and I often sing your songs to learn from and to practice. I know that the only way to maintain a voice into these decades is through hard work. And you show me that it is possible to sing so beautifully, and to not fear who we are, when we are. June 18, 2020 will forever be a special day, and I'll remember it for the rest of my life. I remember in St. Judy's Comet, you sang to your sleepy little boy. I thought about you, as a father. And on June 18, 2020, I, too, became a father, to a beautiful son, to whom I will sing lullaby's that you wrote. Oh, and why did Bridge Over Troubled Water cause me so much homesickness? So much that I was crying for my mom as a 14 year old? I discovered that it was the song my mother sang to me - in utero - in 1971/72. You were truly the first, and most profound musical influence in my life. Thank you for the music.

There are NO coincidences in life. If you remember that you will be a wise man. Always seek the seek the reason until you must let it go. Then, the reason will find YOU. Trust me. I’m 74 now. I should have died in September. I’m still here. I don’t yet know the reason. It will find me when I’m ready. Bless you and your son! Raise him right. But be sure to PLAY with him! Play teddy bears and puppets while he’s little. Cars, jacks, and pick up sticks, too. Tag and kick the can and darts and Chutes and Ladders! Go swimming and horseback riding! Learn archery together! (It’s a fun sport for girls and boys!) Go for nature hikes and collect seeds or leaves and identify! Make a poster board to hang in house! Study dinosaurs or space space ships. Track hurricanes every season! Get a large map you can write on and wipe off! Study clouds and the stars! Do EVERYTHING you can that all you have to do is step into your backyard. Your kid will NEVER be bored! But one thing above all! HAVE FUN! Have the time of your life so he HAS THE TIME OF HIS LIFE! Oh! And don’t forget blowing bubbles at bath time! Lololol

The opening of your second paragraph was so much like the end of the first verse and middle of the second verse of _Duncan,_ I was waiting for that song to be brought up: "Couple in the next room, bound to win a prize, "They've been goin' at it all night long. "Well I'm tryin to get some sleep, but these motel walls are cheap, "Lincoln Duncan is my name and here's my song, "Here's my song." "My father was a fisherman; my mama was the fisherman's friend, "And I was born in the boredom and the chowder. "So when I reached my prime, I left my home in the Maritimes, "And headed down the turnpike for New England, "Sweet New England." When you *did* mention the song, I gathered that it must have been a little pun on your part. Well done! I had recently started college when S&G became hit-makers, and I soon took up guitar, aiming to learn lots & lots of acoustic-friendly songs - folk, folk-rock, popular - including virtually all of S&G's songs. After graduating, with the group's break-up, I still targeted many of Paul's solo-era songs, including _Duncan,_ which my "baby" sister introduced me to. I share your fondness for their songs; but I suspect you've got me beat in the fondness category. In particular, _Bridge Over Troubled Water_ has always been tinged with sadness for me, that having been the title song of their breakup album, released at the time I was being drafted - end of 1969. Little did I suspect some day hearing from someone who was being serenaded in the womb with that song, soon after that time. Thanks, Robert, for the awesome story! And I, too, thank you, Paul, for tons of wonderful music! You couldn't possibly know what a godsend your songs have been for my musical education & appreciation! _Homeward Bound,_ your & Art's (not counting Tom & Jerry) 2nd single, was among the first handful of songs that I learned on the guitar, ≈ 54 years ago now! It taught me the G-flying-C trick back then - no wait - it was the next single, _I Am a Rock_ that taught me that; _Homeward_ used a different, but similar hammer-on trick. Fred
Just shared this with my father. He would sing this to us in front of the fire place in the living room when were little.

Such a captivating and timeless marriage of poetry and music! I ♥️ you Paul. Bridge Over Troubled Water was the first album I ever got. I was 8 years old and my mom didn’t know a thing about popular music in the 70s, but I’m forever grateful to the salesperson that chose this for me. My little friend and I used to sing every song together in front of the large dresser mirror in my room, with our hairbrush microphones and the record playing on a portable record player, dreaming that we would one day be stars. . #favourite memory

I was driving back home from taking my 18yr old son to work. I turned to my left and saw this beautiful, black hawk just flying next to me gracefully, and beautifully. I thought to myself, life is beautiful, and hard, time passes so fast. My little boy is an adult. Our time here on this earth is so limited. But I do pray wholeheartedly that after I’m gone from here, and my son, and all of my loved ones are too, that there is a place after, that we can all call home, and that we’ll all get there someday and rejoice, and be grateful that we’re all back together again.

"Homeward Bound," was THE first recorded music that I laid my own money down for! Must have been '66 - '67. I remember it well, because I loved the way the story/lyrics (represented by the melody) laid over the chords so beautifully. It created such a clear picture, and set a mood. The more I listened, the more I wanted to listen. Hooked for life. Been learning from Paul ever since, and grateful that we have him.
When you’re great doesn’t matter you’re age . The quality of the song and singer is ageless 👌👌
More fragile and at the same time more powerful than ever. Thanks Paul, you are still rock’n.
When someone is simultaneously highly regarded and vastly underrated as a guitar player, it’s a sign that they are rather good.
The Dutch duo Nick and Simon made a documentary (2019) - they filmed in NY - following the footsteps of Simon&Garfunkel and performed amongst other songs this one in a few bars that Simon&Garfunkel also played. It’s a great watch and takes you back in time to days when songwriters didn’t need a whole bunch of musicians and electrical gadgets to make music that to this day is still superb!

In 1969 I was somewhere between Northeast Pa and Ft. Sill Oklahoma the weather was cold and damp, the bus stopped at a depot for a change of drivers and so that we could all eat at the diner in or near the bus station. After eating, waiting to re-board I was sitting there thinking about going home instead of going to Vietnam and Paul Simon's Homeward bound came on a radio near by. I though of family and friends I wondered if I would get home again, it was a sad feeling the song has stuck with me ever since. Paul Simon is a true artist capturing emotions and putting them music in way that very few people can. I love his guitar arrangements the notes and chords are signature Paul Simon. Thank you for this!

You Paul Simon are one of those rare gifts, and you share yourself with the rest of us so eloquently. Thank you so much. You may not realize just how much you mean to the rest of the world.
I like everything about Paul Simon - the way he talks and looks, the way he philosophizes, his liquid lyrics which roll of the tongue, the unbelievable cool way he plays guitar and sings, his acerbic wit, and the wistful nature of his entire being. He is completely unique. The world will never ever forget the great Paul Simon.

One of my favorite songs of all time. And Simon and Garfunkel are my favorite duo ever! Thanks!
Thanks..your songs are great... From back in the day to the present.. keep on keepin on....Paul Simon ..😁
The plaque commemorating the writing of this song is still on Widnes station. And by the way Paul back then when you said "if you've ever been to Widnes you'll know why I was keen to head home". Well nothing has changed. 😄
Um dos meu compositores preferidos!! Brasil loves you Paul🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷

Hi Paul, Thank you for your beautiful music. Time flies by but we stay. We stay home and we stay silent until we discover something new. Paul you never change at least not from ten years ago in Budokan Tokyo.
I saw Paul at the Hollywood bowl during his farewell tour and he put on a great show

I was fortunate to see him twice in a week. Caught the Portland, and Oakland shows. I would have loved to have been able to see the Hollywood Bowl show as well. 👏👏👏✌

My dream was always to see him live. Me being in Canada and COVID, won’t happen now.

@@martiefurlong4609 keep that dream alive. At the the Portland show, he admitted that even though it was the 'homeward bound'.... final tour...... that he lied, and just wanted to sell more tickets. I would still go see him again if possible. 🙋✌
Oh, that was lovely. Thanks. Brought me to a full stop.
