Only Scholesy could tell this story in such a way that it sounds like his comeback wasn't a big deal. 🤣 The humblest man to ever grace the game 🔴⚪⚫

Scholes and Keane were the dream midfield

That City game, bar the mistake he made, he actually helped United to win. Everyone was losing their heads, yet Scholes soon settled into the old routine and just controlled the game from midfield. I think his pass completion rate was 97% and it remained in the 90s all season. If United had won the league - and remember it only came down to goal difference - he'd have been a massive part in that. He was the Football Writers 3rd best Player of the Season and that was on the basis of only a few months' performances! Legend.

heart breaks when he said, "I couldn't do it anymore". What a joy it was to watch him play football.

Even when he says he wish he had retired earlier when he actually did and his legs were gone,I still think scholes was just absolutely sublime and better than any United player even in his final year. Shiws what a world class player he was and the most humble player

Van Persie was talking in an interview once, saying something like : Scholes entered the pitch and then the passes started to arrive... it sums it up all. He had one of the best passing rate ever. Very accurate, very few mistake, zero stupid risk taken. He was good in interceptions, sometimes hard on the man, but his passing game was simply outstanding. As an Arsenal fan, I think he is the most emblematic symbol of that Ferguson era. Esp. bc he won the title again after his come back, which was the last title Man U won

Ask any true football fan for their opinion of this guy and they will either say he’s ONE of the best or THE best!

In an era of so many great great players, he has always been my favourite united player. Abundance in ability but the most humble guy ever to play for united, doesn't handle praise to well but a legend never the less

I remember being so happy seeing scholesy's name in the substitutes during that FA Cup game. Perfect that him and Giggsy played an important part in Sir Alex's final season.

Can't believe he's never won a ballon dor. Such an inspiration for top class players.

Zidane when asked how it feels to be the best midfielder told the journalist... `I dont know , ask Scholes`.. This was after he had won the UCL with Real Madrid, when he was in his prime..

Hard to imagine that he went to (what was probably) Sports Direct and bought a pair of boots! So down to earth. He is sorely missed.

People go on about Scholes' personality being the reason he wasn't noticed. Not being funny, but Gerrard and Lampard were two of the most boring personalities in football, so I don't really get that argument. All three are quite intelligent in the media and give insightful views, but as players, they were normally pretty boring off the pitch, apart from one time when Gerrard punched a DJ.
