Been there since his 1st episode in 1993. My parents had just gotten a divorce and this was my 1st weekend hanging out with my father, so we watched this "new guy" to see how he'd do. It was all over after that long intro. We loved it, and never missed a show (if one of us couldn't make it, the other would record it). Love watching Conan.

Nothing touches Paul's childhood stories. They are legendary in their hilarious horrificness. So much so, that on LIVE shows of his ten plus year HDTGM podcast, that as soon as he even hints at bringing up a childhood memory, the audience immediately Bristles with eager anticipation. And without fail, no matter where you think the story is going or how bad it will go, the actual story is always ten times worse. Love Paul's childhood stories.

There needs to be a compilation on here, so many gems.
The Arnold interaction sounds more charming than awkward to me lol I like being on the level of someone to be able to communicate outside of the performative act of charismatic conversation. Those sleepy time grunts are what it’s all about
When RDJ went home to RDS and told the story around the Downey-dinner-table, I bet they both realized that knew the guy Paul described and had a good Downey-father-and-son laugh.

Apparently he's a very unusual guy, friends of his acknowledge. I think he thought he'd do a good deed. And he did, Scheer made it in show business.
I had a sympathy panic attack listening to this.
LMAO Paul's story reminded me of that scene in UHF where Weird Al shouts, "Hey...RJ!" and the whole office freezes in place. 😂
Great stories!!! Thank you!
Conan has deeply human encounter with Arnold : “This is awful”
Lmao I hope Downey Jr sees this
God I love Paul Scheer's stories. They are honestly the best part of HDTGM lol
I first remember seeing a young Conan in a few SNL skits, back in the day. I was 22 when his show started in 1993. I've watched him consistently ever since.
The crazy thing about this story is that Paul hasn't watched that alien movie yet 😅 Had that happened to me I sure would've watched it as soon as I had access to it.
Whenever Conan and Paul get together it feels like the best therapy!
must've meant Morton Downey Jr

Okay, that was funny.
That RDJ was cringe worthy funny. 😂😂😂
It was very much a different time. Mostly people trusted adults then. Now we laugh at how wild that was because we know how unsafe that could have been. Such a great Walken story lol like totally what one would expect from him. He seems like such a wise eccentric dude.
As an adult in a brightly lit social setting, I would be totally intimidated by Christopher Walken! LOL!
At least Christopher Walken didn't tell Paul about how he kept his father's watch hidden up his ass for two years in a POW camp in Vietnam.
I think the move here is to say “he doesn’t know you at all! Thanks, sorry to bother you- you’ve given me a great story. I’m gonna kick that guy’s ass next time he tells me he knows RDJ”
Don't think it was an issue in this case with Chris Walken, but "no parents" is a massive red flag.

It would have been because a celebrity would meet a kid to be nice, but adults know that so they might use the kid just to meet the celebrity.
Gerald McRaney was hilarious as Rick! And Jameson Parker was AJ, 'the hot brother.' Simon & Simon was an 80's classic!
Every sweat gland/pore opened up in sympathy to the RDJ encounter. To be stuck with the memory of Iron Man with no smile on his face saying "HEY MAN! I dont know who are talking about" on repeat in a mind shattering loop.
"Hollywood on Location:" sounds pretty fun, actually. Driving around to different places to see random TV and movie stars? I would have loved that when I was a kid. Bet there are a lot of amazing "brush with greatness" stories out there from people who found those sets.
"The prescription pad said 'Jamie Gertz!' 1000 times.... in a child's scrawl!" Brilliant!!!!

Wish I was rich like Conan and still work so hard. That's good ethics.
Conan's bit about upping the ante of being insane is the basis of I Think You Should Leave
I really hope the next season of "Conan Must Go" is called "Conan Must Go Elsewhere"
Conan was actually my awkward celebrity encounter! 😂 😬
I'm thinking it must be Jerry O'Connell that must be talked about RDJ haha. He probably did drugs with Downey in the 90's but Robert totally forgot
it's comforting to hear a bad celebrity encounter story. I made a fool of myself talking to John Krasinski over a decade ago and it still haunts me, heh
