@Der Typ I'm not that cynical with Rudd as I think he's genuinely a good guy who long ago stopped caring about money/success (once he wasn't struggling anymore at least), in that I can see him being like "Well, that thing I was in didn't do so well...oh well, I wish it was better so people would of enjoyed it more, not so I would get more money from it or future projects", so, anyway, I don't think this was ever a gimmick to get him known for this unique "ploy". I don't think he went on Conan decades ago and was like "What can I do so that people will know me are more than 'That one guy...you know, in that thing...', "What can I do so people will remember my name?". I think he came up with this purely because he thought it was funny, thought Conan would love it and maybe the public might too, and then just kept doing it purely to make Conan/us laugh.

If Paul did the prank on Fallon, I'd totally just think Fallon knew beforehand.
The sound of the wheelchair rolling down the hill is something I’d recognize in my sleep at this point

That's why it works!
I listened to this in the car the week it came out… I promise you can indeed do this on a podcast. I laughed for almost 5 straight minutes
This just shows that with Paul Rudd, the joke is more important than anything else. Love this!
Conan's reaction is amazing lol "Oh for Christ's Sake!" 😂😂
i was listening to this on a long walk yesterday and as soong as he said "we have a clip" i smiled so hard because i KNEW what was coming

That's sad to hear, I hope you'll feel better, and your doggy too. Losing a family member is heartbreaking and losing a pet is awful too. I'm glad legendary Paul Rudd still managed to make you laugh :) Wish you the best

Much like Conan that music has been etched in to my psyche *forever* so even without the visuals I knew exactly what's up. Also like Conan, I didn't think Rudd would bust it out on a podcast - and I almost didn't believe it until I heard "Oh for Christ's sake". That was the point I about died laughing.
I cried laughing for 5 minutes. Knowing the backstop and the idea of this silliness continuing into the podcast and hopefully beyond
Great to know that the Ruddroll is alive and well!
That setup has jokes inside jokes and NONE of it is real. GOLD. Rudd is a legend.
This is the best running joke. The build-up story was so good.
😂 😂 I knew this was coming and still laughed my ass off

Heard it on the podcast yesterday. So glad you showed the video. I was laughing for a solid two minutes. The setup was perfect. I too was duped. Hats off to Paul. Thanks for the silliness Coco!

Oh, and normally it wouldn't work on a podcast... but your fans have also seen this clip 160,000 times. It's pretty in there. Lol. I knew what what it was as soon as I heard the strings at the start of the clip.
I have honestly seen this video about 30++ times and it still makes me laugh-cry! So glad the joke continues 😆
It’s just so believable and Conan is so off guard that it seems almost cruel to play with his heart like this
Conan seems so skeptical the entire time, lol

This bit is the greatest. I was looking forward to this audible project, i love Ken Marino, but knew it was fake the second he said he “brought a clip”.
Paul Rudd absolutely kills it every time he appears on Conan.
Paul Rudd is a national treasure. A pure comedy genius.
Literally love how Paul hasn't given up on this joke

Apparently, according to director John Hamburg, Paul loooves to do a bit / joke for a long time, like the "slappa da base" scene in I LOVE YOU, MAN.
So there's actually a pretty nice story about Mac and Me. The main character being in a wheelchair wasn't part of the script. The kid who got the part just happened to be wheelchair bound and was the best pick. So they just wrote it into the script afterwards to accommodate him. Also he did his own stunts. While it's obviously a dummy going off the cliff, they did actually push him down a hill going super fast like that lol.

Also, he really wanted his scenes to be realistic and true to life, so in the finale he made them actually shoot him and blow him up.

The only reason they used a dummy for the over the cliff scene is when the actor did it, it didn’t look real enough.
2:37 "Oh for Christ sake" 🤣🤣🤣
The longest running gag on tv is now in a podcast, brilliantly done.
"You can't do that on a podcast!" He just did Conan. There is no escaping this!
It’s not often we get to hear Conan’s reaction as it’s happening. I love it.
This. Made. My. Life. I cannot say how much this running gag has meant to me. From bringing through lots of really hard times. And now with new hard times, THIS happened?!? Yes. And thank you.
3:18 is the reaction of comedy gods

You should!! I made my own iphone ring tones by importing the audio into itunes, converting to apple's m4a format, cut the bit you need and convert again to ring tone format (m4r) and import to your phone. I don't know if there's any other way to do this but it's how I did some years ago
Ive always loved these two. They play off each other so well in bits. Conand always been my favorite talk show host. And who doesnt love Paul. Hes so good looking and funny. Perfect
I love this bit so much, he always just walks right into it
This never fails to make me laugh. One of the best running gags of this era
That was perfect. Forget everything else he’s done: Paul Rudd is an incredible actor for this alone.
This was the best setup to that joke. I almost didn’t think it was going to happen
This is my favorite version of this bit because it’s the only one where I believe 100% that Conan was not expecting it in any way
