I listened to Paul’s trance when I was 21 years old. Now I am 58 years old n listening this wonderful track now.

This mix holds a very special time and place captured in its sound. Everyone in the comments knows what I mean by this. It's almost tears of joy but it's also sorrow as those days are long gone and all we have now are mixes like this to reminisce on those truly better times.

At 16 I used to jam out to this playing Tribes 2 for PC. What a time to be alive.

Quite possibly the most definitive set by an artist in their prime of all time.

Can anyone else do Trance like Oakey after 20 years? HECK NO! Not even the Oakenfold of 2020. These were the days of UNDERGROUND TRANCE that made Paul Oakenfold, The King of Trance. If you like this set, look for Acid Goa Underground Trance, but Oakenfold has a unique touch that combines all these Trance flavors in a progressive and melodic way.

Oakey told Stories... as if he travelled the world of emerging electronic music and compiled these albums each fitting to its location, paired with exotic transitions of mystery. I have always thought of these mixes as Stories which wove intricately and seamlessly into my own dramatic story lived in my teens. You keep the Story alive, and I will too!!!

Still get the CHILLS just like listening for the first time 20 years ago - MAGIC!

It's like a magical sound that can't be described in words. Brings me back to a simpler time in my life when I had the whole world in front of me. Now I'm approaching 40 and all the great days are behind me wrapped in in this mix and sound. Pure magic

Man the beginning gives me the feels big time. I still have this in mp3 on a old memorex cd. I don't even understand what happened to all these years and that is very scary sometimes. October 8th 2023 - I just came back to this comment 3 years later! I was just reading through some e-mails and thought that the hotmail account I use I have had since 1999! :) Someone hacked it a couple of weeks ago but I managed to get it back. No way I'm losing my old account :).

96/97 started going to dance clubs/raves. 99 I found out about Essential Mix. I think it wasn't until about 2001 I found this mix. Honestly not a Oakie fan. However this is without a doubt his best. That Amanda Ghost joint is a TUNE!

30-36 mins is on point! This easily still holds up today.

His sets are legendary and staples for any DJ / EDM artist. God father to EDM and we owe Oakenfold for modern music to this day really.

Paul made a lot of great Mixes over the years, but this one is my most favorite by far. Perfect for forgetting everything around you when while closing your eyes.

Two tracks stand out in this mix. The first one is Paradise. I couldn't believe that it's a Vengaboys tune, when I found out and of course Stage One which is the peak of the mix for me. I still get goosebumps listening to this set.
