Yes, I agree. Every other edit seems to glorify his rise to power. Don't get me wrong, it was a rush to see Paul's revenge and path to full leadership... but not many people seem to understand just how dark it is. This edit shows everything in the same light as the film. You feel triumph yet a sense of tragedy.

When Paul says "Long live the fighters!" On the ledge above everyone, at first I thought-how are they hearing him when he's all the way up there?-and I thought it was just movie logic, but then I realized quickly that-oh! He's using the voice!!!

Best and most perfect video that could be done on these movies. Emotional, beautiful and impactful with the subtle epicness of the second movie! Elegant editing at its finest

Forced to play a roll he never wanted to play. Forced to be at the hands of faith and destiny. Paul's life is but a tragedy. One that is revealed to us most beautifully. Thanks again Slyfer for these most inspiring edits. You are incredible!

A beautiful tribute to such a tragic hero. Paul’s character is someone who is good but must seem mystical and evil to stop a a future that haunts his dreams. At the end came victory for Muad Dib and death for the known universe.

No. The book highlights this after Paul drinks the Water of Life, he is the fulcrum between good and bad and he is a person who can’t give without taking and cannot take without giving. Irulan’s last passage in the book is that he is both Ogre and Saint, someone with good intentions but questionable methods and motives. Paul had to dominate the Fremen to give them victory. Paul assumed the mantle of the Lisan Al Gaib to try and mitigate the inevitable crusade the Fremen would be on. This was inevitable because as soon as Paul arrived on Arrakis with Jessica, the Fremen interpreted this as Holy Providence, that the Mahdi has arrived and should he die, they would carry out his work following his death - like the Templars did with invasion of Jerusalem as it was the home of their Messiah. Paul’s entire existence is a product of the Bene Gesserit and beyond his control. His Mentat teachings were beyond his control until he was 15. Paul is not a benevolent and humble good person, but rather someone with compassion who tried to avoid destruction, he tried, he failed. Ergo the tragic hero destined to walk the desert.

Awesome! This is exactly how I felt when I read the novel myself at 16 years old. And that’s exactly what I saw in the film adaptation. And I experienced it again! Magnificent creation! It was this line of Paul’s experiences, the testimony in your video that fully reflected the impressions! It’s so strange that no one around me understood the drama, but saw only the action and laughed at the Freeman beliefs. I experienced this horror, fear, pain, overcoming, change and power once again. Thank you!

I'm just now reading the books, waited for part 2 to come out since my intro to Dune was Denis' Dune part one and wanted to finish his adaptation first, but I adored part one.
