I'm guessing that most people would categorize this as a minor entry in the venerable McCartney song book, yet it remains a personal favorite. I never tire of it. It gives my spirits a lift every time.

Imagine this,... THIS was the song that introduced me to Paul McCartney at age 8. I started listening to the Top 40 in April and this was on the way up the charts and hit #1 May 20, 1978. While I was a radio listener from the crib and going forward, so I'd obviously heard Paul songs and Beatles songs this was my first awareness of Wings, and eventually led to my discovering the Beatles, (through the Bee Gees 'Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band' movie). This song still holds a special place in my heart and Band on the Run" a 6/8/74 #1 is my favorite song of all time.

@@jeffreymosher6334 Good story. I got my first intro to all things PM, when I heard Uncle Albert. I thought, "who is this? sounds good, sounds like forever memorable" Later on, I find out, he was a member of this group called the Beatles. I thought that group was made up of a whole bunch of people, more than four, in my mind. One time in grade 7 industrial arts class, I was killing time by drawing a picture of some bearded dude, not knowing who I was drawing or how to draw. Some kid comes along and says something how it looks like Ringo Starr... And I think, I've heard of him, he was in that band. Only later did I bother to ask one of my relatives who all was in the Beatles. And the fascination only grew. I was always first and foremost a PM fan, but the Beatles fog was lifting.

From Paul's London Town album, released in 1978, this is a beautiful tune, written on his farm in Scotland. With the beautiful hooks and magical harmonies this sensation went to Number 1. It was recorded on a motor yacht in the Virgin Islands equipped with a 24 track recording studio. Just so McCartney. ❤ Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Imadrummin. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Paul McCartney is absolutely the Music-Man! Any time a person picks up a song by him I immediately think "Why that song? There are a lot more interesting songs or funny songs or deep song more than this one..." But I'd have to let it go hoping that person will enjoy the tune... And London Town is a magical album for me, it's a mystery and smooth journey...

This was the first solo/Wings song of McCartney that I heard, when my brother and I got into The Beatles in 1978 (seeing film of Yellow Submarine, at a children’s film fest/ brother born in 1967, me in 1969). This song was edited for radio due to the word “damn” 🙄 and the instrumental break is shorter on single than album. Damn!

I’m a musician. Prior to this album most musicians were using synthesizers to create sounds and effects. This was one of the first albums to create string and orchestral sounds. It was the beginning of a change that for example allowed Paul to perform songs from Sgt. Peppers live. Once again a Beatle was progressive and forward thinking on how to use new technology.

Def one of my fav Paul/Wings songs ❤ And i always loved the musical interlude towards the end. It fits the message of the song: of wanting us, ( humanity) to get along and "make it". If you get a chance, watch the video to this,; where Paul has an audience dancing around him and the band Kids, teens, adults and old folk. All races and religions. Just like a multicultural family reunuion. As to whether its about John. I believe Paul managed to put messages and lines referring to him in quite a few songs. Esp the late 70s era. They were being warm and cordial with each other. Even tho i believe , had John lived, there may still have been snarky snipes between them, from time to time. But I dont think theyd EVER lose their brotherly love for one another. And it fits the theme of the song, that despite the difficulties and differences, we can make it work..

As a German-speaking old man, I just say "nice". Back then, Mac was riding a "surreal" US wave of success, triggered by Band On The Run and Wings Over America. He could publish whatever he wanted, but it never worked to that extent in Europe until the "Müll" Of Kintyre appeared. In my opinion Mac, John and George were solo tightrope walkers, on the one hand brilliant on the other hand just "nice" to put it politely. Only Ringo always remained musically authentic with a wink.

@@Rkw772 Thanks! A funny story involving "Joe English" - My brother told me when he was in college, he met a woman, also a student, out social at a bar. They were getting along fine, she asked him back to here apartment, off campus. He said they started to fool around, on a couch. Then she suddenly got up, with anxiety, and declared, "No, I shouldn't do this! I'm also dating Joe English!" My brother said he started to howl with laughter, rolled off the couch onto the floor. She was confused. He said, "I hope he's not the old drummer from Wings!" -that had to be explained to her. (around 1990)

@@jonathanmurphy3141 funny. Last I’ve heard of Joe is he’s a drummer in an extremist church in North Carolina. The church minister was arrested for beating a child in the congregation.

That just doesn't sound like the great bass lines you hear from Paul. Way too basic.
