Paul McCartney - Listen to What the Man Said | Wogan | BBC1 20/11/1987
Ойын-сауық
Music now for this Bonfire Night and here's Paul and Linda performing a Wings classic 'live' on Wogan back in September 1987. Sounds very Ob-La-Di... to me! Was hoping it would encode to HTML5 but didn't for some reason.
No doubt it'll soon get 'blocked' by something ludicrous like Bollocks International Airlines Ltd etc but make the most of it whilst it's here!

The man could cut diamonds with that voice!
This songs reminds me of when I was employed as a private chef for a very rich and eccentric inventor that lived on a luxury yacht docked in Lake Erie in the summer of 1991. This song came on the radio one day and the inventor asked me "Who is the man in the song? Listen to what WHO is saying what?" I quickly replied "It's you. He's singing about you. YOU are the man in the song." He thought about it for a while and then let out a loud and hearty laugh. He eventually went to prison for fraud and I think he lost his fortune at some point.

This was the first song from Paul that I heard at a barber shop with my dad.. I was 5 in 1976... I miss those days...
I have fond memories of listening to this song on my little portable radio when I was 13. This song still holds up well.

Beyond all shadows of doubt whatsoever, Paul McCartney is a once in a century, literally a one every hundred years instrumental and lyrical and vocal genius, i mean like musically beyond savant level for like sixty years now.

Paul in his solo prime. This song is like a scrapbook of that wonderful time in my life as a kid. The spirit of the song so represents the mood of the mid '70's. People were enjoying themselves.
I think Pauls voice was at his all time best in this era. It’s just so beautiful.
The Wonder of it ALL BABY!

That might be the last time he ever played his Rickenbacker in public.

amazing performance, plus Paul was in the middle of a 8 year hiatus of refraining from playing live.
The best rendition of this song
2:25 "for all we know our love with grow", definitely appears like he's singing it and not lip syncing. Must be live vocals sung over a backing track or something, like with the Hey Jude performance on the Smothers Brothers

ckelley63 Sorry to break it to you but this is definitely not fully live. Any musician could tell you that just by listening to it. Its a pre-recorded backing with live microphones during the performance. Paul, Linda and the saxophone are live, but the rest is prerecorded including some additional backing vocals and acoustic guitar that arent even present on the set. Check out 3:23, you can clearly see Paul is not playing the notes you hear from the bass. Still, McCartney rocks and this is one of those cases where the tv station wont let artists go fully live.
