George was 25, Paul was 26, and John & Ringo were both 28 when this was filmed. The Beatles would be no more by the end of the year. Just phenomenal what they accomplished in such a short time at such a young age.

What really impressed me with the roof top concert was how John really came alive in his performances - during the rehearsals he kidded around a lot but then put it into overdrive, put the peddle to the metal so to speak when it came game time

George stopped playing guitar for a year or so to focus on the sitar. But for three years, from 1969 to 1971, he was one of the most musical guitar players/songwriters in all of rock. Watch him construct his rhythm part on the video of John recording "Oh My Love". Great song, but George's guitar elevates it to the heavens.

John barely manages to play the very simple "Get Back" solo, and messed it up a few times. Paul played a more aggressive rock and roll style, which suited certain songs (e.g. Helter Skelter, Taxman), But George was the best guitarist in the band. By far.

This is a brilliant song. The Beatles were brilliant.
Always great to see John and Paul singing together. They seemed to harmonize in the most natural sense.
The Beatles are a life long friend. We grew up together, felt the joys and pain. Not always on my mind as I grow older and more distant, but all it takes is a song when up or down, and we’re once again in support, right along side and right back where it began. When that feeling transcends everything else and can at a moment snap you back in, there is more in that feeling than life in of itself. Lifelong friends to the end.

This is actually one of my favorite Beatles songs. Well, not the Beatles , but I was 17 and staying with my older brother in Marin County in 1974. One evening while walking around Sausilito, I heard Clapton music coming out of a small hole in the wall and peeked in to get a look. Nobody cared to ID me. It was him, playing impromptu with some locals. Early Un-Plugged jam. He was my Idol at the time, so I was feeling pretty pumped. Saw him perform at the Cow Palace a week later.
The greatest band that will ever be...in our universe and the universe next to ours!

It was and still is the best band ever
For all the talent in the Beatles, and especially Paul's genius playing of the bass, when it comes down to brass tacks, my favorite Beatles songs must have John on lead vocals. Dig A Pony never had any radio play except on the college low power stations. This can easily rank as their greatest song, or at least in the top five. John's voice is hauntingly beautiful, as he so often is. I also think he wrote most of the lyrics to Dig A Pony. That is always a source of debate with followers of the Beatles. Was it John, Paul, or both who wrote the lyrics and the chord line? In my uneducated opinion, this one is all John. Shout out to Ringo for steady rhythm and George for his very creative lead guitar. We will never see the likes of these four again.

Yeah. Quick little subtle glances, partly making sure they're on the same page, performance-wise, but more so looking at their friend they've been through thick and thin with, and all the emotions and baggage that come with being with someone for so long. It has that same "trying to catch their eye" thing that you mentioned.

I say this not very seriously… I’m 68, and I’ve been a fan since 1963. Watching the Get Back documentary and the rooftop concert, this is what strikes me: in the documentary, The Beatles are messing around a great deal, George walks out, and everything is just jamming and not focussing. Then, lo and behold, they are on the roof, playing really well rehearsed songs flawlessly (almost!). Now - it’s almost as if they did a load of messing around for the cameras, and then, when filming has finished for the day, they settle down and rehearse seriously. I know what you’ll say, and I agree. But still - it’s not impossible…!

It's amazing the little details I notice after having played electric guitar for 55 years. Like the Beatles guitar cords just plugged directly into the instruments and hanging untethered.
