Paul shows us a bluesy, three-notes-per-string, scale pattern in A minor and a cool run that uses it. He created this “huge scale” from “all the cool, bluesy intervals” that Pat Travers and Pat Thrall use on one of his favorite live album, ‘Go For What You Know,’ by the Pat Travers Band. The reason Paul came up with this scale? All will be revealed in this short but stellar tutorial.

Exactly what I did....
That Pat Travers live album, Go For What You Know, is such a milestone - blew me away then and still does... Pat's material was so much more adventurous than the blues-oriented albums he later did...

Kudos to Paul for loving another Canadian musician who is highly underrated.. i recall Metallica axe 🪓 man Kirk Hammit said he’s was a major influence on his playing growing up. 🤘🏻🎸

@@batman1169underrated is an understatement lol. Pat is so freaking good at the guitar that I don't know how in the world he's not mentioned more. How is snorting whiskey not on every top guitar riff list out there?
Pat Travers Band "Go for what you know" live is one of the best live guitar driven rock albums. Pat Travers and Pat Thrall had some of the best guitar driven rock of the 70's.
Never seen one of his lessons. He's as good a teacher as he is a player. Simply amazing!
“Go For What You Know” was an AMAZING album and one of the most influential for me - so glad to hear it get mentioned here!
I remember Paul was even a very impressive student at GIT, yes he was blowing people away even back then!

Paul I was lucky enough to meet you in 1998, you gave me a crucial hint for a good slow vibrato that changed my playing. Your statement here about Bruce Bouillet shows how great you are once again 🎸🎸🎸
He is the best teacher ever
Paul's going to kill Bill after this lesson.

Paul is the man.
Paul seems like a all around good guy
Pat & Pat put out some killer material, quite under- rated....
this lick and the lick that's similar in E minor that he teaches in a separate video that's older has unlocked the fret board for me. Paul is the best teacher and hands down the most rounded guitar player in the world.
Truly awesome! Thank you Paul!

Paul Gilbert is GOD!
Reminds me of something of the Jeff Beck "Blow by Blow" album
I saw Paul in Intense Rock 1 overdoing the string changing movement. The movement came clearly from the shoulder. Thankyou Paul for confessing it now - I thought so considering your incredible speed! (By the way: I was the 666th thumbs up...)

It's apparent Paul doesn't like doughnuts.
Tinted sixties mind in blues.
Guitar Buster
Anyone know what is that foot, stomp, drum pedal thing he is using? Thanks.
Pauls been watching the Orville. That outfit has one more zipper than I'm comfortable with. His guitar playing is OK too :D
Change dots to stars and u got a winner.
For whatever reason it reminds me Sails of Charon, dunno why.
For trying not to sound like Yngwie most of the notes hes playing are actually in E harmonic minor :P It's Like the 7th mode with 2 extra cromatic notes. Cool
