These guys are talking high school recruiting as holy grail of team building. Living in the past much? NIL and the portal is not the future, it is the NOW. Saban knew that, and he’d been masterfully using JC transfers for over a decade. DeBoer knows how to do it and will keep this team strong. And, oh by the way, SABAN IS STILL IN THE BUILDING! Hungry and smart head coaches taking up primary coordinator positions. DeBoer (and Saban!) are assembling the Voltron of college football in Tuscaloosa!

DeBoer is a good -- maybe even great -- coach, but he's nowhere near Saban's status; and these kids signed-on to play for Saban. In many cases they accepted smaller NIL packages to do that mainly due to Saban's rep of getting players to the NFL. They no longer see a need to play for less than the "going rate", so they're transferring out.

Saban was more than capable of forging on for another 3 years, he certainly has not lost his edge. . Deboer may be good but despite best effort that may only be good enough for a middle ranking. it would be very difficult to replicate the very judicious, calm, personable extremely intelligent and very wise Saban , unless it is a comparable young man of exceptional character that can win over players and fans will a compelling realistic comprehensive long-term vision built from ground up on a wholistic foundation.

Coach Deboer should call an emergency team meeting! Once the meeting starts, he should have one of his assistants open the door and leave it open! All he needs to say is, "I need a decision from each and every one of you, right now!" "If you're staying, remain seated!" "If you're leaving, there's the open door, and our best wishes go with you!" Then as heartfelt sincere as Coach Deboer could put it into words, he should say, "Men, you don't have a clue what a decision to leave this university could do to your future!" "But, at the end of the day, I can't, nor do I want to force anyone to stay!" "So, it's here and now!" "Make your decision so that in the morning, we can start making plans for who elects to stay!" "And, again, for those of you who are leaving, we wish you the best and God's speed!"

Byrne wanted flash, and thought DeBoer, who was a 4th year coach, would light a fire. He’s only run a power 5 program for 2 years, and he’s going to somehow keep Saban’s Alabama together? They said it, Bama wasn’t even a top 5 job when Saban took it, it’s more than capable of going right back there, when the coach is a flash in the pan type of guy. Grab a team with a roster, get them to stay there, plug a few holes, have a couple good seasons, next gig. He should’ve had to prove for 4,5 years, that he was capable of recruiting and developing, before Washington even hired him. But once he was there, show more than 2 good years with someone else’s recruited guys. I bet the kids sense his brotherhood, culture, love you guys, I’ll be here forever stuff isn’t working. No one is going to fall for that bs again, when they have someone else that wants them. He might’ve ended up getting fired by Washington after 4,5 if he couldn’t do those things. I think they were hasty, Byrne was, and listened too much to Sexton. We’ll see, but I’m not really sure of their chances if he doesn’t change his ways. If he can’t keep kids there, he might not be the guy, don’t waste 5 years on him.
