His commitment to excellence brought so much joy to my family and me - the games we attended, the titles we celebrated, the games we watched on TV, even the press conferences. He did so much more than win football games.

Correct and Alabama fans will compare every coach that comes through Bama to Saban .. That’s going to hard for them. The comparisons happened to every coach Bama hired after the Bear retired although he passed away shortly thereafter. But when you have legendary coaches like Bryant and Saban that is GOING to happen. Does anyone remember who took over after John Wooden retired? Probably not. Bama fans (and I am a +50 year Tide fan) have become accustom to winning.....A LOT. The pressure to perform on the new coach is going to be incredible. As far as allowing Coach Saban to have access to the program goes....who wouldn't want him as a resource with the gravitas that he brings? I think Bama looked/considered Kiffin, Sark, Norvel and maybe one or two others. Maybe those coaches are comfortable where they are. Maybe they didn't want to be the guy who followed a legend. Frankly, I can't blame any coach for not wanting or taking the job. I think taking it speaks well of DeBoer, considering the program he had built in WA.

One more thing, as far as Coach Saban stepping on the new head coach's toes......I don't see that happening. Nick Saban is the ULTIMATE "team guy". With him, it's about the "us and we" not the "me". He has repeated this theme over and over and over throughout his time at Bama, and you saw/hear it here during this interview. If Coach Saban had any suggestions for Coach DeBoer, I truly believe he would offer them behind closed doors and NEVER, EVER in the public eye.

From a DIE HARD Georgia fan, how can you not like this guy? Greatest coach to walk grounds of my generation. Yes it’s hard looking back at his wins over the dawgs but can’t help but smile as to what he did for his players and coaches and for the game of football. Set the standard and forced others to chase him. Go dawgs. Only time you’ll hear me say Roll tide!

@@wesleybaker9724 what stats prove that the last few years? you are aware part of being a great coach is wait for it recruiting and people. over the last 10 years before the last 3 years did georgia have dominate talent going back to mark richt? yea they did how many titles did they win? did florida have dominate talent, did they win as much as bama and saban did? no they didnt. clemson, ohio state, oklahoma, michigan ect.... so many teams had dominate talent but didnt do nearly as much as saban and bama did. i mean before i went to bama i was a diehard michigan fan, chad henne, mike hart, braylon edwards, steve breaston, arrington. they had dominate rosters, never id anything with them. but yea just stop talking. i mean he did not have a majorly dominant team this year and lost to the eventually champions in overtime. Age & energy level is the real factor. I agree. At the same think Saban hates to lose. Now with NIL , it's a level playing field now. In SEC, he will come face to face with his former assistants.Losing to them is doubly hard. Happy retirement coach.

Respect from a Michigan fan. Sometimes we all got sick of Alabama winning ALL THE TIME😂 but that’s a testament to his success. It was non stop at all times. His worst years were light years ahead of 98 percent of other teams best years. And he didn’t have many off years. No one has ever done it better, and it won’t be the same without him.

LSU transformed Saban from a great coach into one of the premier coaches in college football, but Alabama is where he rose to the same tier as Bobby Bowden, Tom Osborne, Joe Pa, Bear Bryant, Pete Carroll, etc. A lot of that had to do with the talent he signed, but you still have to coach the talent correctly.

You're kinda slow huh! The 2023 CFP decision will always be known for FSU not making it bec the CFP thought a team playing without their starting QB was not good football. TX was a shell in the 2009 game. Colt, 2700 yds for the season, goes down 6 plays into the game and true freshman Garrett, 150 yds coming in, replaces him. Results were a farce.

I’m a 25 year old Alabama alum. This man made me fall in love with the school and college football. Growing up in a super small town Alabama football was everything. This man has done more for the state of Alabama than any politician could ever imagine. Every man should strive to be even half the person Nick Saban is. Not just in sports but life. I absolutely idolize Coach Saban and i will miss him everyday. Roll Tide Forever.

There are few men as classy and committed to excellence as Nick Saban. He is one of those geographical icons that I know just how much he makes you proud. I feel the same about my Spanish icons, such as Rafa Nadal. They exude everything you hold high, and respect, and can point to and say, "He is our best. He is the example we are insanely proud of and we all want to be more like." I absolutely get it.

Also from Oxford, I will always be thankful to be able to grow up witnessing sabans coaching and the greatness that came with it. I did despise bama but it was mostly because it sucked knowing we were probably gonna lose when we played saban every year.

Georgia might never have become what it is today without Nick Saban. Outside of Georgia’s 2007 W vs Bama, the Dawgs were cursed. The above average results of Richt forced the aggressive hire of Kirby. One of the greatest of Saban’s coordinators. Beating Bama in 2021 was the ultimate final boss type game for Georgia. Second national title appearance, second time vs Bama. Clearly Georgia had to beat Bama to lift the curse. Georgia did and now yall have a program that has gone 42-2 in the past three seasons. Greatness breed’s greatness to combat it. That how Saban indirectly made Georgia.

Without a doubt. I remember the day he was hired (on my birthday & it was the best bday present ever) and how you just knew things were going to change from the disaster that had been the previous 5-10 years. The only worry then was how long was he going to stay and I never would've believed it would be 17 years of the best college football dynasty to ever grace the planet. Truly thankful.

@mas5867 The Bermuda Triangle at Jordan Hare has been a challenge for sure. He’s 7-1 in the iron bowl at Tuscaloosa and the margin of victory is 3 TD’s, losing only in ‘10 during the Scam Newton era, but only 5-4 in Jordan Hare. With the whole O-Line downfield Marshall to Coats on the game tying score in ‘13, time-out basically granted end of first half in ‘19 when none existed…to allow time for a FG, ticky tack holds on Jones to Ruggs TD in ‘19, 40 yard reverse to go up 14-0 in ‘23 taken off the board, etc., etc. Given those obstacles, it’s a miracle he was 5-4 in that place. .

Saban was a defensive backs coach at Ohio State under coach Earle Bruce. He replaced Pete Carroll. Was fired from Bruce's staff after the 1981 season after allowing 28 points to Navy in the Liberty Bowl.

I never thought this moment would give me misty eyes and so many feels. 😢 This man is a class act in every aspect and Miss Terry is equally as amazing. He has impacted so many lives in such a positive way.

He is a great man and class act. The fact that fans of other college teams have so much respect for this man speaks volume. Thank you Coach Saban for everything you have done for Alabama and college football.

I met Saban at his summer football camp, and it was harder than any football practice that I ever went through in high school. Him and Pruitt got on to me for messing up a cover 3 at the middle backer position. I'll never forget those moments. I had season tickets in 2016-18, and those were some of the best times of my life. Thank you, coach, for everything you did for my favorite university and inspiring me every day to get up and chase greatness.

Coach Sabin is a once in a lifetime coach…never be another one like him. Wish him much joy and happiness in the next chapter of his life.

LSU fan here. When Lombardi, Wooden and Bryant retired, there wasn’t the feeling that an era was over, but today I think there is. If there were anyone in sports capable of doing what Coach Saban has done, they’d be doing it. There is no one, and he’s leaving on top. I wish we could have beaten Alabama more often, but sometimes you just have to tip your hat to the other guy. We’ll always remember how he changed the trajectory of football in Baton Rouge, and I hope he’s around for a long time to come. He’s a true leader. Thanks, Coach.

For me, as a retired high school coach, there is nothing I can say about Coach Saban that is adequate. Simply the best.

Nick Saban meant so much to so many players. Most of all, he brought so much joy to Alabama fans and to LSU prior to that. Even from what was said in terms of how he helped so many people on campus speaks volumes. Best of luck in his retirement, he certainly deserves it.

No doubt one of the most inspiring coaches ever! Not just football but in life! Thanks Nick for all you have done and continue to do!❤

He isn’t going to quit coaching. He’s just going to stop coaching football. The world still has lifetimes to learn from him! The support he has shown his players is something that comes from the heart. That doesn’t just stop 😌

Such a great man, what a great legacy. The Crimson Tide and Saban will be unmatched. Our generation will probably never witness something like this again. What an honor to watch this man completely rule over the sport we all love, Roll Tide and Boomer Sooner

Nick Saban was the villain to 99% of the college football community but god was he a good one! He made every game good, every team had a personality, and every championship was well deserved. Such an amazing coach, mentor, and competitor. His legacy will never be met but will always be appreciated. I just hope we have the opportunity to keep seeing this man talk! Have a good retirement!

A class act through and through and the greatest to ever do it. As I heard someone say yesterday "There is no Mount Rushmore, there is just Nick Saban." What a career, what a person. From an Oklahoma Sooner fan. Coach Saban is most probably the greatest coach to ever coach the sport . He has the right good old fashioned mentality , character and work ethic that few will match ,if ever. Speaks a lot about his right upbringing by his father and mother and his mentors. What an amazing career and will miss seeing him coach and share his passion and input .

I would still favor Pete Carroll over Nick Saban. He was a master recruiter at SC and kept defenses off balanced all game long. I don't think anybody has ever outcoached Pete Carroll. He won at the college and pro level, often times with teams that didn't have a ton of talent and was fired by the Patriots and Seahawks for reasons other than his coaching acumen. The knock on Saban is that when he left LSU for the Dolphins, he failed so miserably in the NFL that his name became a running joke until he won at Alabama and removed the stigma. Same thing with Spurrier and the Redskins I can't rate any of those coaches ahead of Pete Carroll, knowing that they couldn't do what he did on both levels.

Alabama was so fortunate to have this man as their coach literally the greatest of all time!!

Eternally grateful that my son played for Coach Saban at the University of Alabama. I never lost a minute of sleep after dropping him off in Tuscaloosa because I knew that he was in good hands. That was a very comfortable and peaceful feeling for me. Knowing he was being molded by Coach Saban and learning "The Process" was one of the best things that I could've ever hoped for him. The friendships, memories, and experiences he built there will be w/ him forever. Enjoy retirement Coach Saban, and hit them straight. You deserve every bit of it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart sir. Roll Tide!

17 years of greatness. It's been truly amazing as a fan of the Tide. We're gunna look back on this Era one day an truly understand how fortunate we have been.

Man I’ve never met this man but yet in a weird way he’s like a father figure. The way he interacts with his players touched me. As a former athlete you know when a coach is genuine. This man isnt a coach he’s a teacher. He has a great heart he’s honest he’s real he’s a great human being. I have a 16 yr old son and I make him listen to coach Saban in the regular. I wish my son could’ve had the opportunity to play for this man even if he never touched the field just for the experience to learn and be a sponge under his guidance. I can go on and on just like the rest of y’all but it’s pointless. Man I love you coach Nick Saban you have helped me as a man and I’m sure gona miss seeing you on the sidelines. I am greatful I lived to be a witness and i am greatful my son got to see what you brought to sports. I pray you live a long and happy life with Mrs Terry your children and grandchildren… ok that’s that

I became an Alabama fan in 1977. My mom, who never watched college football before (only the NFL), started watching the games with me when Saban became coach. In a few years, she became as much as a rabid fan as I had become. When she heard the news that Saban announced his retirement she said "my heart is broken."

As a fan of UGA and as much as I wanted to dislike you (only when you played us) or your success at Alabama, everyone had to give pause and respect because you were the OG and you created a standard. I’m a die hard Michigan fan but man this guy truly is a great coach, seems to be a great man that takes pride in exploiting others around him to be better. I like his style and philosophy and responses. I’d be happy and proud to have him as a couch and/or leader of any kind. It’s bittersweet cs he really has been the gold standard of college football but he’s looking after his health and you can’t oppose that, we’re all human we have to respect our bodies and mind. Honestly, as an alabama fan, it takes the edge off to hear so many other fans speak so well of him. We've loved having him. We're sad to see him go, but i think he made the right decision.

To live through the dumpster fire of 97-2006 was a tough ten years, especially as a student. It sucked. Thank you Coach. You did it with class, and you made a lasting impression on a lot of young men, even ones that didnt play for you. You stood as a great example of attacking every day, every moment with a mind to excel in all things. Thank You.

What a comeback and interception against Ryan Mallett! I'll never forget you visiting with Frank Ragnow after losing his father. You're the College Football HC GOAT in my book! A great interview for a great man. A great coach and teacher that helped boys grow to men and he gave all of them life lessons to carry through life.He did so much for so many people and he brought out the best in all who had the opportunity to be under his tutelage. He helped people not only in Tuscaloosa but the whole State of Alabama. He is respected across the entire country. All past and present coaches learned from the best and he was always willing to help. thank you coach. you can tell hes been crying with his puffy eyes. im glad he didnt cry here bc i couldnt finish the interview. and of all ppl rece's voice and tone just sets the mood, im glad it was him or marty to do this interview. when he retired football crossed a whole new plane. but ill never forget the day this man sent me a autographed 8x8 photo signed " To: Travis, Roll Tide" all bc i sent him a nice letter telling him how much i appreciate his work and the impact hes made on my life. this man will never ever be duplicated, copied, nothing. this man is the angel of NCAA football. thanks Coach - Bama fan from ohio :)

I recently retired from teaching and I relate to Coach Saban's sentiments. Even though teaching can be, and often is super frustrating, there was no greater joy than the relationships you make with students and the feeling when they would tell me I was a great teacher. I'll miss it forever but relish 35 years worth of mostly great memories.

Im 31 now but I was 14 when I got out of jr high baseball practice and was getting in the truck with my Papa... he said we got Nick Saban and little did we know what a ride it would be! My Papa loved Bama football and passed in 2011 but he did get to see you win one championship! I feel like my Papa has passed away again with your retirement but Thanks Coach Saban for all you represent and have done! 🅰️🏈🐘🐐

As a die hard Buckeye fan I didn't know how sad I would be over Coach Saban retiring. The GOAT college coach and it's not even close. I'll always have all the respect in the world for what you accomplished, even though you kicked our butts in the 2020 NCG 😢😂. I enjoyed from afar seeing stories of Saban bringing his players out tubing on the lake and having karaoke parties at his house. Just always seemed like such a genuine good dude and it made me realize why all those 5 star players chose Bama to begin with. So cheers Nick to the best career any of us have ever witnessed, and no matter our allegiances we all wish you and Ms. Terry the absolute best in retirement. You earned it.
