@Andreaz-64 Tens of billions of species have existed on Earth, but fewer than ten that we know could build a campfire. I think that Clarke meant intelligent, technological species for "we". However, "we" have only ever decided that it is immoral to kill, eat and make handbags out of "us". ;)

How do aliens exclude creation? A creator could have created life in other places in the universe. Finding aliens will not disprove creation.

There's no need to search for beings more advanced than ourselves. They're already here and always have been. They're just smart enough to keep their existence from the public until we're ready for that knowledge.

The last thing I’d want to find is people like ourselves because if we do then god help us.

As a practical matter, I think it would make more sense to simply search for other life in the universe. A planet without life obviously won't have intelligence life. We now know that any planet that has life and an atmosphere, will have an atmosphere that's in a recognizable type of disequilibrium that life causes. All we have to detect is that disequilibrium. We have learned much about early conditions in our solar system, and how planets of various types form, and about the many solar system catastrophes that threaten life. This knowledge tells that there is a much greater chance of the existence of simple life on a planet than there is of advanced, intelligent life, because complex life takes a lot longer to develop, and is extinguished more easily by random solar system events.

It's very simple if life is here it's out there we're not that special

Finding a nearby civilization would be interesting wouldn't it. If you could get a steady two way communicatiin running how would that benefit both?

Thank you Mr Khune and Mr Davies for one of the most interesting videocasts about a fascinating subject. I try to do my own research on any subject and alien life forms has brought me to the conclusion that if I were to wager, I’d bet that this planet has been visited by otherworldly beings. That being said, it has been reported that every 6 minutes, a UFO is seen somewhere around our world. What I think must be factored in is our belief in the speed of light as an absolute certainty, and by that I mean in our time, it is impossible to travel faster than the speed of light. What I think is probably coming down the pike is that our physics will have an upgrade and that there will be found a way for traveling beyond the speed of light in a way that we cannot imagine, and this could be by passageways that are there but cannot be accessed yet with our technology, and I mean tunnels of a sort that are a fast track to other solar systems. What I really think will be fascinating is a thorough examination of the Earth’s moon, because I cannot accept the fact that this celestial object which is 400 times smaller than the sun and 400 times closer to the sun than the Earth and therefore gives us a perfect eclipse makes any sense at all. The sheer improbability of the moon happening to be in just the right orbit, the right distance from the Earth, the right size to have perfect eclipse is off-the-charts. That the Earth would turn on its axis every 6 hours without the moon and therefore be devoid of life also makes me think that there may be intelligent life behind its creation in that life on Earth could not exist without the moon. Gentlemen, there are many things that don’t make a lot of sense which is why your discussion is music to my ears, because we are dying to know what’s going on with some of the Earth’s mysteries and especially what life forms exist elsewhere.

The Moon is in orbit around the Earth. It is not 400 times closer to the Sun at any point in time. Otherwise, your inquisitiveness suggests that you are to some degree intelligent.

My goodness, they are already here. I saw my first UFO afternoon Monday 7th in December 2020.

We search because we don't know if it's there or not. However if we look at the odds of intelligent life developing on earth multiplied by each goldilocks incident or great barrier we can see that the odds of life developing in a universe are < (less than) 1 in 1 billion (universes) regardless of drake. Presumably we are in the midst of a series of universes of which an infinitesimally small number develop intelligent life, separated by unfathomable aeons at best.

How tiny are modern micro-chips that contain intelligent information and calculation capability? We are pre-disposed to search exclusively for Aliens we can see with the human eye.

Hmmm, maybe the reason there’s nothing out there in endless infinite space is because we are meant to look INWARDS to our hearts where is where we have our FEELINGS ...

Maybe the FEELINGS is in fact the alienated life force we are in search of.

The most significant fact is that we now know that, as Mr Kuhn said, there are billions of earthlike planets in our galaxy. There are billions of galaxy's. Therefore there are billions of billions of earthlike planets in the universe. The implication of this, is that we are definitely not alone. But it could be that intelligent life is typified by octopuses, not technological beings like us. Best guess is that it's a mixture.

So, basically you are proposing that when one uses Drake's equation to estimate the number of extraterrestrial civilizations capable of interstellar communication, one might assume that the term of the equation estimating the number of intelligent living worlds that become technological to be extremely small. That's a reasonable assumption.

Assuming no God, the odds against life arising dwarf the number of planets in the universe -- it's like one person hitting the Powerball a million times in a row. Even if you get life, it's got to take root in a hostile environment and diversify and evolve into a biosphere before you get anything like an octopus, if things even get to that stage. Not a very likely state of affairs.

@@bobrussell3602 I would guess it has something to do with KZread algorithms. KZread wants its users to be engaged with comments and discussions. To achive that, KZread would place more sensible/intelligent comments at the top, encouraging its users to keep reading the comments and, perhaps, to reply. The question is how would KZread algorithms distinguish between smart and stupid comments? In my opinion, that can be possible if algorithms trace and analyze all the comments submitted by users. Information analyzed by the algorithms can include data as follows: if those comments get many likes and replies, if the comments encourage replies that seem constructive and not hostile, if there are any words in those comments that the algorithms identify as silly/offensive. Also, the length of sentences and their complexity speak a lot about an author's intelligence. Is it technically possible? Definitely. Google and KZread possess almost-AI software and very powerful servers. Now, another question is why would KZread want more comments? After all, KZread makes money on views of the videos, not reading comments. The reason behind might be more serious and far-reaching - it might be profiling users. If one brings together all the information about a person's internet searches, purchases and thoughts expressed in comments (which people mistakenly believe are anonymous) - that gives someone in-depth knowledge and profile of the person, or billions of persons. Knowledge is power; and control also comes with power.

To reverse engineer advanced technology, and past it off as our own.

@@suatustel746 “Dictate rules”? Scientifically speaking, these “rules” proven effective, sociologically, and without “gods” interference. A cogent roadmap for behavior and perspective might be another way to phrase that, god or aliens. Religion has, perhaps in a crude way, shown us the way forward, in a way we can understand. Yet like teenagers, we often reject what we are told and have to find out for ourselves. Possibly a lesson better learned, but progress is slow. Trying to civilize us, helping us evolve.

I am an artist. An avid one. I want to paint countless little pictures of their heads on green tinted little rectangular pieces of paper.

What good would it do to find aliens anyways? Just more spinning of all our wheels. In other words going in circles endlessly. Maybe the black hole is a reflection of our empty space the needs to be filled with love.
