You know what will really bake your noodle? Jessica was forbidden by the bene gesserit to bear sons, only daughters. If she had obeyed her and Leto’s daughter would have married Feyd and united their houses. So they were always destined to either love each other or kill each other.

According to the book, it was merely the traditional Fremen statement and Paul (who had now been spent years as a Fremen) chose to use it.

The theatre experience was so awesome. The scene right after he said may thy knife chip & shatter. It was like I could feel the sunlight directly fell on my face

you didn’t read the book he almost died in the book too. and in the book he was left to the mercy of count fenring (who was omitted from the movie) and the only reason he lived is because fenring disobeyed the emperor and decided to spare him

No disrespect but IMO it's the opposite, just before the fight pau wanting even he cannot see what happens beyond the fight "in this place and time they're blind as am I." On the next page he also thinks "From here, the future will open, the clouds part onto a kind of glory. And if I die here, they’ll say I sacrificed myself that my spirit might lead them. And if I live, they’ll say nothing can oppose Muad’Dib." It's clear that the jihad will happen whether he lives or dies. Both being entirely possible

To be fair, as a fan of both, Star Wars lightsaber combat, at least in the prequels, is purposely made to be light, and flashy. Aside from Lightsabers being able to cut by simple touch, the idea was to portray supernatural, if you like, skill and sword play, it was designed to be flowery and majestic. Similar in concept to the Witcher 3 video game by CD Projekt Red, they pursposefully made the protagonist Geralt of Rivia, a super soldier, have flashy combat mechanics to differentiate him from your average human swordsman, Star Wars uses the same principle in the prequels with Jedi and Sith. The combat in Dune is ace to be sure, utilising Kali, Phillipino Knife fighting, was a fantastic touch for the setting, but Anakin vs Obi in ROTS is still, in my mind, one of the best looking duels ever put to screen.

Fun fact: Jessica was supposed to give birth to a daughter, and her daughter was supposed to marry Feyd-Rautha, and their child was supposed to be the kwisatz haderach. Instead, Jessica chose to have Paul.

What's interesting about the scene is Paul knows he can't beat Feyd in a1v1, so he intentionally lets himself get stabbed in non-vital spots so he can secure a kill. The Water of Life shows him everything.

It’s a competition, and Feyd is still a great fighter in the book, but he has a lot more tricks and tools (like knives hidden in his clothing) that force Paul to adapt despite him being better. And Paul is a bit nervous because he’s never seen these moments in his visions, so he has no idea what will happen. The big difference between book Feyd and Austin Butler’s Feyd is that book Feyd is way more cocky and talks a lot more shit, and Paul eventually wears him down until he makes mistakes.

Well, it is a different kind of competition. In the book, Feyd had a lot of little tricks up his sleeve in the fight. But nothing that Feyd did ever fazed Paul. Even after the poisoned blade scratches him, Paul shakes it off like nothing and ultimately figures him out and kills him. I personally liked the movie version better.

One of my favorite details about this moment in the book is how Feyd thinks Paul is just so COOL. He starts fangirling in his head like abridged Vegeta seeing broly go wild, and he genuinely wishes they could have been friends instead.

Strength doesn’t lie in combat, and that’s especially true in Dune. While Leto would have beaten this emperor and probably the book emperor (who is the same age but looks younger) in a fight, he was still outmaneuvered and lost to strategy.

Duncan Idaho Wins Consider this: The Sardaukar are considered the most feared fighting force in the galaxy and Duncan killed about a dozen of them by himself before they were able to kill him. Not to mention Duncan was one of the main fighting instructors for House Atreides. Feyd may be well trained but most of his fights were rigged. The one Atreides soldier he fought who wasn't drugged still wasn't 100%. He had likely endured torture and malnutrition I very much enjoyed Feyd as a character, but he wouldn't stand a chance against Duncan. After killing that many Sardaukar in his last stand, it's safe to say Duncan is the elite of the elite.
