That's because despite what people think of him Feyd is a good and honorable person. He was only trying to do what he thought was right. In the end, it was Paul and the Fremen who were the evil ones. We support Feyd.

*10,000 years.* That's how long the beef with House Atreides and House Harkonnen lasted. Their feud started after an Atreides accused a Harkonnen Baron of abandoning his post during a war with AI combatants. Paul is the last Male heir of House Atreides and Feyd is the last male heir of House Harkonnen. Control of Giedi Prime was given to the people of Caladan after this duel, and under the direction of Gurney Halleck, who was once a slave on that world, its machines of industry were dismantled, its name and those of its cities were changed, and its forests and greenery replanted. House Harkonnen ceased to be after this duel. The Atreides. Despite all the odds. Won.

  • @XPSnowblowing

    @XPSnowblowing

    25 күн бұрын

Not exactly what happened. The first Atreides was the son of a Cybernetic general but then defected to fight for Humanity. The Harkonnen name was sullied twice mainly- once when Xavier Harkonnen flew his starship into a star with Iblis Ginjo (a traitor of humanity and a high priest) to kill both of them, but people thought he was a traitor. Again when Abilurd Harkonnen disabled the human fleet’s weapons systems right before the final battle with the machines around Corrin in a skewed attempt to save captive human lives, at the direct ignoring the orders of his superior Vorian Atredies.

That was a great fight scene. I like the there was no background music during the duel. It reminded me of the fight scenes in the Jason Bourne films. The silence, and the aggressiveness of the fighting moves capture the seriousness of the scene and the movie as a whole, and as you go deeper into the film series, the more serious those scenes become. I can see the Dune trilogy capturing that quality, and I hope it continues in Part 3.

In the 80s movie, he comes across as a blowhard, playing to the crowd, and Paul is almost toying with him. Here, Paul has precognizance and the Weirding Way, and Feyd damned near kills him anyway.

Feyd in the book was rather rambunctious and arrogant, frequently taunting and bellowing at Paul (he at one point tries to use a poisoned needle on Paul). Paul however remained steady and quiet, and only made one retort against Feyd, when he shouted "Treachery", accusing that Paul has poisoned him when he cut him on the arm. Paul just then retorts "Only a little acid to counter the soporific on the Emperor's blade". The Duel in the Lynch movie is somewhat more truer to the book. I like how Feyd is seen as a ruthless and cunning psychopath but he also has a twisted sense of honor to him. When faced with a real fight he treats his opponents as worthy combatants. We see it when he fights the last Atredies on Geidi Prime, he was beyond mad when others interfered to help him. We even see him repeat the line “May they knife chip and shatter” to Paul as a token of respect. The only disrespectful thing we see him do to Paul is taunt him using Chani. However this is to goad Paul into an emotional outburst and make a mistake. It is a tactical move, one often used in duels. And when he is finally defeated, Feyd even tells Paul he fought well. I like that little nuance about Feyd, how he is clearly a monster but has is own code underneath that not even the Baron can eliminate. Now this is NOT the Feyd from the books who used poisoned blades and was far from honor. However I like how the filmmaker displays character nuance even slightly in this film. Paul’s rise to villainy, the Bene Gesserit’s plans backfiring, and Feyd’s twisted sense of honor.

When blades strike each other its literally a rod of metal striking another rod of metal, so the clang should be loud af. 1. Paul gets the first headbutt in because he's been sharpened by months of ferocious desert fighting 2. Feyd draws even and gets the measure of Paul because he's also a born fighter and frightfully intelligent, he trades the headbutt back because he's just that vindictive 3. Paul tries to switch up to acrobatic Fremen moves, he flubs it most likely because he's already fought a huge battle plus the exodus through the desert (and nearly being poisoned to death) so he's surely come to the duel exhausted whilst Feyd is fresh 4. Feyd baits Paul emotionally, it works but not in the way he intends. Paul isn't exactly rocked by the taunts but it surely clouds the spice visions with which he's been running on autopilot since awakening. With that advantage lost, Feyd gets the first stab. 5. Paul is now all but certain to lose but he has now gotten the measure of Feyd, as the Bene Gesserit assess earlier in the film he's a sadist. Paul uses this by placing himself in a weakened position and allowing Feyd to stab him again, obscuring his vision in return so he can get a decisive shot with the other blade.

He starts spilling all the Bene Gesserit secrets and forces the Guild to return the amassed armada of the great houses in orbit away from Arrakis. He also asserts his control of the Spice by threating a chain reaction to destroy all the worms who create the spice. He only addresses the Emperor to tell him he will be stripped of all power and imprisoned.

Jessica nuked the Bene Gesserit plans on how to maintain their breeding program AND deal with the House Atredies problem without it destabilizing the Imperium. Got galaxy civil war instead... Jessica is a lot dumber in the books since she doesn't do it for any other reason then Leto obviously wants an heir (which is the exact thing that she is supposed to prevent), the movie gave her a lot more agency since she birthed Paul intentionally to try to get him to be a Kwistaz Haderach. Jessica burns half the galaxy on accident in the books... she does it on purpose in the movie.

Even having read the book I was still on the edge of my seat the first time I saw this. I seriously wondered if they were going to change the ending. I think they did the right thing here by departing from the book. Most of it was internal in Paul's mind and had a lot to do with him remembering advice from his mentors. It's hard to portray that in film so they went with a more physical fight and tried to tie in some of the themes of Paul being more in the likeness of the old duke than his own father. This is really meant to be his own bullfighting moment. You can literally see the way they make feyd into an enraged animal with his aggressive attacks and battle shouts. He charges as Paul and Paul spins out of the way like a matador. In the end he gets impaled by the bull just like his grandfather. The knife grab was also a very clever way to capture the essence of the end of that fight while making it something original for the film.

Love how Feyd basically stabbed himself.

Kind of. I think most of the force comes from Paul. Paul kind of stabbed himself more than Feyd did. He traded a knife wound in a less dangerous spot for a fatal knife wound on Feyd

Off topic but something i like about Paul Atreides and Clarke Griffin is that both characters lead by getting their hands dirty. They learn to adapt in extreme environments and build trust with people they know would kill them. Best of all is that they break traditional customs forging new ways to settle disputes. For those wondering Clarke Griffin is a character from the TV show "The 100"

@@ApocGuy I already thought it was to avoid copyright problems, however, I wonder wether this really serves the purpose. At least in my country it wouldn't avoid copyright claims.

1:45 & 1:52 I love how skinny Paul looks compared to Feyd. Its a little unsettling because of how vicious a fighter Paul is.

Why is the choreography SO GOOD? I wish Lightsaber duels in Star Wars were of this caliber.

I wonder if the way the fight went (Paul getting gravely injured) was the only way he could see himself win, which says a lot about Feyd's skills, or he was trying to stir something into everyone that watched the fight (that he is willing to tiptoe at edge of his own life, sacrificing everything in order to get the win). Maybe both?

I Love the contrast of how the Duel begins between The 1984 David Lynch version, The Sci-Fi Television version and This Excellent David Villenueva Remake. In The 1984 version Paul Actually Calls Feyd out and is eager to Fight him. In the Mini Series Feyd calls Paul out and Paul Seems Kind of Worried, In This one Feyd just basically steps up to the challenge and Paul seems indifferent. This and The 1984 version were the best
