Pau Gasol is a standup guy, just reflected so genuinely about how Kobe impacted his life. We need more people like Pau to speak sincerely of Kobe’s legacy. Life and Basketball will never be the same since losing Kobe. Great interview!!!

Of course he did. He was submissive and had no real superstar ego. He was more than willing to let Kobe brick the ball for 10 out of 12 years and say nothing about it. Egomaniacs love the humble.

I almost broke down the other day when I was looking at all the team photos of the Lakers from 96- 2016, everyone is here except our very own Kobe. Living in the east coast, I have missed so many 8am classes in college, thanks to Kobe and the Lakers. lol. Even though I enjoyed the no.24 era a lot more but it was the no.8 Kobe that made me fell in love with basketball. The nostalgia about those 2000-2004 teams is killing me now man.😭😭

Not gonna lie its been almost three weeks and every morning I wake up its still the first thing that enters my mind. I still don't want to believe this is real. I've lived long enough and seen many famous stars and athletes pass away, but this one just feels different. I'm a football player but i love all sports in general, Kobe Bryant was not only my favorite basketball player of all time but he was my favorite athlete of all time. The way he approached the game and life in general and the impact he had on people was to be admired and commended. Im gonna miss you Kobe. Thank you for the Memories ill never forget you. DaVonne TheDuDE I try to go about my day and then it hits me, especially when I see people talking about him and showing old interviews ans game vids. The first week I thought it was a nightmare and somehow it wasn’t real. Then I’d wake up and my first thought was Kobe is gone. I feel for all the families impacted by this tragedy.

So beautiful to hear Pau express how he felt about Kobe and what each meant to the other. Their bond transcends sports - it was about the genuine human connection which really translates to love of the highest order. I remember when Pau was being interviewed after his first game as a Laker, and Kobe came by shouting, "A mi me gusta mucho!" The appreciation was there from the start. We miss Kobe, but at least we have Pau keeping his memory alive.

I'm a Celtics fan, the 2010 Finals still feel fresh, and man Kobe passing hit me hard. It's so great to hear from Pau, and he's right that we all should carry on Kobe's legacy and ideals in whatever way we can.

One of the few trades in NBA history where two teams benefited greatly. Pau gave Kobe the help he needed to get a championship. Marc became an essential piece for the most successful grizzlies team thus far.

The definition of a REAL friend and brothers keeper is Pau Gasol.

Kobe and Pau Are my two favorite Lakers of all time. I know the Kobe and Shaq era was more dominant but I can’t explain why, but I really loved watching Kobe and Pau work together and have that great three-year run they had from 2008 to 2010. Kobe has said it many times that he would not have had the success in the second part of his career without Pau Gasol. Once he joined Kobe, Kobe won the league MVP that year and they went to the finals three years in a row and won back to back championships. I really hope they retire Gasol’s jersey as well because he so deserves it. Great video and My heart goes out to Pau, The rest of Kobe‘s former teammates and friends and especially Vanessa and her children. Rest in peace Kobe and Gigi.

At least we got to witness Kobe’s jersey ceremony when he was still with us. Laker need to also retire Pau’s jersey as soon as he’s eligible. Pau was instrumental to the ‘09 and ‘10 chips.

when i sadly heard about Kobe's passing, Pau was the first one I really wanted to hear about the loss..... Pau was such a great final piece to help Kobe's Lakers to win back to back, especially Game 7 against Boston!

Ton of people came to my mind, Odom first as he seemed most vulnerable. Pau and Artest a close second. Then Ariza and Sasha. Of course Shaq too, but at least he got to fix things.

Awwwww Pau 💜 I can’t even imagine the horror people closest to him felt when they got the news. I was affected, and I didn’t even personally know him, so I could only imagine. This was a truly tragic moment for the NBA and LA. 💜💛

Kobe and Pau had excellent chemistry together from that first game together against the nets

I’ve been waiting to hear from Pau and I thank the LA Times for this interview format. It was personal for Pau and full of love. He and his wife aren’t just saying they’ll be there for Kobe’s family. Pau is class personified. He and Kobe had a different bond on an intellectual level. Both weren’t like the majority of NBA players. They had the European connection, Basketball and other outside interests. Pau chose basketball over medical school and that’s unheard of in the NBA.

I lost my kid Brother back in August , my Uncle and 8 friends this Past year . The pain of losing someone u love left me Numb . RIP Kobe ,🙏

I'm so sorry for your losses. It feels awful. I lost 3 friend's in the past year and a half. I think of them every day. Miss them so much life will never be the same. Praying for you and your family in this difficult time. So sorry about your baby brother, uncle and friend's. God bless you.

I'm originality from Spain, Pau is pure class, in and out of the court...such a great guy! Game 7 in LA still my favorite game! He deserves to be in the HoF. Such a sad loss, Kobe was my favorite athlete with Tony Hawk, Nadal, and Pau!

I know ko kobe-shaq is a great tandem but so is kobe-pau. I kept watching their best plays. I felt not only the teamwork but the brotherhood too. 😭

When he was playing with Shaq, Shaq carried him around like a baby on his back and they were calling one another brother's They were hugging one another, I'm not trying to diminish what you're saying. But Kobe just like you and I have had plenty of friends in our lives that we've called Brothers. but let's not make this seem like he was the only thing to Kobe and nobody else was because that's not true.

Thank you, Pau. Ernest words by someone who was very close to Kobe & his family. Only met Kobe once, and as devastated as us fans are....it's important to remember who's really hurting the most right now. Can't even imagine what his family & friends are going through. Same with the other families....with so much sensationalism and media coverage shrouding the entire process. Much love & healing needed ahead.

Never have I ever been so effected by a sports figure/celebrity death. My heart aches for his family. My boys grew up watching and trying to imitate him on the court. He was their Idol and truly respected him.

I can't even stop thinking about myself. My heart is still aching about everyone who died. I just can't believe HE'S GONE 😭😭💛💜.I just can't stop thinking about his family and the other families that has been hit with this TRAGEDY!!!💔.I just know that I haven't felt this way in a long time since AALIYAH and then I had deal with September 11th being from New York City..I know by dealing with pure sadness feels like and I know Vanessa and her daughters to have two of the most beautiful souls just taken away. I know we all had dealt with Tragedies but in due time it makes us stronger 💪.I pray for all the families. I have been so sad and emotional all of these weeks.I just wish that Kobe and his Mom could've hash out their problems. Now He's Gone and there's no way to fix it 😭😔.I just want to let my family know how much I love them and not hold any grudges because tomorrow is not promised to anyone. Tell your loved ones that you loved them NOW!!!

It's nice to hear people talk about Kobe, but it's even more uplifting coming from somebody you know that was genuinely close to him, and knew him as a person, and not just a sports figure.

One of the best duos of ALL TIME. His jersey needs to be up there with the rest of the Laker legends

This was a life-changing existential event. It is hard to describe how impacting it is even for strangers. I have to make myself skip over videos and articles. There is a collective sadness about this. The family is in my prayers, as well as the other passengers on the helicopter. Mr. Gasol....what an excellent friend you are. Prayers and blessings for you too.

99.9% of us watching this video didn't know Kobe personally, but somehow his passing has effected us as if he was a close and loved friend. It's crazy how much of an impact he's had on all of our lives. I will never get over this. As the years go by I'll only learn to accept it. If you ever wondered what it must feel like to witness your hero die, this is literally it. :'(

The Lakers could have gotten Lebron in his prime but for this. They basically handed the entire franchise to a person who was willing to dismantle it and destroy it for TWO RINGS. And that's it. It's like being so happy you got Scottie Pippen to agree to a 12 year deal and 2 rings... neglecting to mention you passed up on 5 rings with Jordan.
