Patti Smith Interview: Advice to the Young | Louisiana Channel

Музыка

"Build a good name," rock poet Patti Smith advises the young. "Keep your name clean. Don’t make compromises. Don’t worry about making a bunch of money or being successful. Be concerned about doing good work and protect your work."
The American singer, poet and photographer Patti Smith (b. 1946) is a living punk rock legend. In this video she gives powerful advice to the young: "Protect your work and if you build a good name, eventually that name will be its own currency. Life is like a roller coaster ride, it is never going to be perfect. It is going to have perfect moments and rough spots, but it’s all worth it."
Patti Smith (b.1946) is an award-winning American punk rock musician, poet and visual artist, who became a highly influential figure in the New York City punk rock scene with her debut album ‘Horses’ in 1975. Smith fuses rock and poetry in her work, and has been dubbed the ”punk poet laureate” as well as ”the godmother of punk.” In 2007 she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in 2010 Rolling Stone magazine put her on the 47th place of their list of 100 Greatest Artists. Among her many albums are ’Horses’ (1975), ’Radio Ethiopia’ (1976), ’Easter’ (1978), ’Gone Again’ (1996) and ’Banga’ (2012). Smith is also the author of several books, including ’Woolgathering’ (1992), ’Just Kids’ (2010) - which won the National Book Award and describes her relationship to her lover and friend, photographer Robert Mapplethorpe - and ’M Train’ (2015).
Patti Smith was interviewed by Christian Lund at the Louisiana Literature festival at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark in August 2012.

I listen to this everyday. I'm an adult now but I was never given this advice - it was always that I had to look a certain way or do certain things to please other people in order to live a 'good' life. It's thanks to artists and writers (like Patti) who have shaped me and my world view. I was taught by them to be free and independent.

During my Insomnia this week, I have found myself stumbling upon some wonderful (and some weird) KZread videos. This one last night stood out, and the content is just as relevant in today's world. I really love Patti Smith. 🖤 ps; I also re-watched Patti performing Bob Dylan's 'A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall', at Bob's Nobel Prize ceremony. Even the best of us still get nervous. Such humility and grace..and after a restart, she nailed it beautifully. The emotion was palpable. Bob was said to have laughed and remarked that 'nobody messes up my lyrics more than I do'. Definitely something to check out if you're a Bob and/or Patti fan.

Maria Chat you can't listen to something you cannot hear because it's been removed and deleted from the artificial information network. Not trying to argue your point or say its not possible. it just will not happen on a government controlled and monitored network. or maybe you just don't understand the complexity of technology and how easily it can be modified or monitored. And the internet started as a military communication system for the sole purpose of realtime information sharing world wide for the purpose of..... well you ponder why the war machine would want to be on the same page we the same time..

In my humble opinion, she rises to the tier of a near Genius. Not only is she beautiful inside, but beautiful outside of herself with no inhibitions,of which she does NOT hold back. Lastly, boy what a true Artist of real ideals that are based on concrete life.

Yeah I wish there were moments like that on "regular" TV all over the world. Instead people are forced to half-ass their ideas out, no room for nuances, for real talk, for thinking out loud and giving time to let it sink in. That's one of the reasons we have so much hate, so much frustration and so many simplistic ideas flying around I think. There are many more wise "public figures" out there I'm sure, it's just very very hard to find them.
