You probably heard Michael singing lead for the Doobie Brothers on their classic track "What a Fool Believes." For a little while there in the '80s his voice was everywhere (even though he was originally just a keyboard player).

That's how you sing s duet. I loved this song when it first hit the airwaves back in the eighties and still do. And it's the way it climbs and climbs until they let loose for real.

Patti, Miss LaBelle has been a Diva for quite awhile, she is at the epitome of her game, she takes Second to No-One. You have heard Michael McDonald. He is in the “Doobie Brothers”, ( they’ve started their ‘21-‘22 Tour) What a Fool Believes, Minute By Minute, Taking it to the Streets, Whenever I Call You Friend, he’s also done back up work for “Steely Dan” & “Kenny Loggins”. This has got to be the “Best” Break up song ever! Check out the Production Values, California vs New York. The letter Patty crumbles up in NY shows up on Michaels table in CA. The same Boxes/Luggage in both places, hell they even have the same Cactus. The Voices are beyond compare, Patti is at her Best and Michael is in Top Notch form. I’m a Big Fan. Patti Labelle a true Queen

Michael has been in the music game, since the late 60's. He started out singing backup vocals on Steely Dan albums. When the lead singer of The Doobie Brothers got sick in 1976, they asked him to sing lead for them, till he got well again. He was so good, they decided to make him their lead singer. With Michael they had hit's like, Taking It To The Streets, It Keeps You Running, What A Fool Believes, Minute By Minute, Real Love, among many others. He did backup on Toto's I'll Be Over You, On Kenny Loggings song This Is It, And Ambrosia. Him and James Ingram, did a song called, Ya Mo Be There. He did some solo stuff to, Keep Forgetting. Made some other albums over the years, FYI, in the 80's, he even dated Dennise Williams. He's a super lit artist, with a lot of super lit song, to his resume!✌️🎸🥁🎺

Her group of 3 singers including, Nona Hendrix & Sarah Dash, was called LaBelle: Lady Marmalade; You Are My Friend. After they all went solo, Patti had many hits, mostly in the ‘80’s: New Attitude; if Only You Knew; Feel Like Another One featuring Big Daddy Kane. Michael was in Doobie Brothers: What A Fool Believes; Takin It To the Streets; Minute by Minute. His biggest solo hit: I Keep Forgettin (I’m not in love anymore), which was also sampled by rap artist, Warren G. Other hits, besides this duet, is one with the late r&b artist, James Ingram called, Yeah’ o Be There, & one from a soundtrack for the movie Running Scared, starring Billy Crystal & late tap dancer/singer/actor, Gregory Hines.
