I am a professional musician. I play the with the symphony orchestra in my state. Micheal McDonald came to do a performance with us several years ago and I had the great luck to be seated right next to him on stage! My music stand was literally right beside his piano bench! I consider myself highly poised when on stage, but I must admit that I have never made so many mistakes in my life! I was totally distracted by his voice and the color of his eyes. It's an ocean blue that I cannot even describe very well! He was so kind and such an incredible musician. Much respect to him and his musicianship!

Michael McDonald was everywhere in the late 70s and early 80s. He was the lead singer for The Doobie Brothers, but he also sang backup for Christopher Cross, Steeley Dan, and Kenny Loggins. The man was booked and busy! Once you know his voice, you will hear it in a lot in songs from this era.

Hello my brother ABtheKreator, Michael McDonald has been loved by many fans for his "Blue-Eyed-Soul" style and he's been called "The Man with the Golden Voice!!!" I highly recommend that you react to his duets with: James Ingram, with Patti Labelle and with Toni Braxton!!! They are absolutely fantastic!!! The live version of his duet with Toni Braxton is one for the ages!!!

I smiled while during the intro knowing Michael is the reason why I can sing close to 6 octaves and can do back vocals like I do as a drummer. He was literally everywhere and by far the most in demand male back vocalist in the early 80's! I was in a old schooler tribute to the Doobies and they said I needed to learn his lines which are always the highest notes and I spent 3 months to get the necessary range. Went to college and found no instrumentalist singing..... y'all need to step up!!!

I think he is sitting down writing this song for somebody that still preys on his memory... somebody who still haunts his heart... he is doing all of this while he is remembering them... And at the end when the "new girl" comes walking in, she is the person that he has as a replacement for the one that is in his heart.

    1. I think Ashanti’s voice would sound so good in the back drop on this. 2. Towards the end of the video I just kept thinking, ‘I wonder who had a harder time getting their hair to look like that. That white chick, or Tina Turner… 🤔’ Given 2 totally different hair types, it’s virtually a miracle either one could. But guess what. The blonde totally lost on this one, only because she had to fry, over-perm, tease, iron, and lacquer the h€ll out of her hair to do it, AND IT ALL PROBABLY BROKE OFF AND FELL OUT A MONTH LATER. Bummer girl. You do you. Let Tina do Tina. 3. I don’t know how anyone could make out with someone with all that prickly fur around their mouth. It reminds me of my dad. Yuck. I don’t get it. BUT Michael Mc’s eyes make up for it, AND his voice is almost like liquid, and the mellowness but intensity of him just overall, in general… I don’t think I’ve ever seen that in anyone else. His vocal instrument is unique. THANK YOU FOR NOT LETTING THIS MUSIC GET FORGOTTEN. It actually is pertinent to music history as well sociological history. 4. AB, I really like your vibrato.
