you open into shorts if you end youtube app while in shorts. it’s just programmed that way. if you end mobile while watching a video, you’ll reopen into the video side

I usually open to the home page and it’s pretty 50/50 wether it’ll have a list of videos or 2-4 shorts first.

I generally listen to KZread. I like videos 30+ minutes. Most videos I click on average like 2 hours. I only actively watch ~40% of videos. Just like this video, I listened to it while driving home. Mainly because I listen to stuff while playing games, driving, cooking, etc. Over 50 hours a week.

Same, also vent warning, KZread is making this experience worse to when there are really long skippable adds where I have to stop what I’m doing to skip the add, which is just annoying

A bit of a weird comparison but the way TikTok/Shorts removed the creator sort of reminds me of Etsy. I’ve always noticed people saying “I got this on Etsy” or “you can get it on Etsy” but rarely (if ever) refer to the individual shop/artist who created said item/product. Just something I’ve noticed since I’m an artist as well 🤔

Can't say I've ever used tiktok or vine (i.e. never had the apps) so when shorts became more prominent on youtube I've avoided them as far as possible. Now I will occasionally watch an interesting looking short or two that shows up in my recommended section / homepage but the vast majority of those are by creators I'm subscribed to for longform content anyway... plus the odd cooking / baking clip maybe.

100% agree with you when you were talking about watching a bit of a vid, pausing it, doing something else, coming back to it, watching a lil more, pausing it again etc. My tabs are just a wasteland of half-watched vids because I tend to want to watch food-related contented when I'm eating, Pokémon when I'm playing Pokémon, comedy stuff when I'm chilling out, art stuff before I go to sleep... Every now and then I'll do a tab clear-out and be like, "Oh, yeah, I really liked this vid! ...I thought I finished it?" but, no, I watched half of it... so I save it to my favourites in order to get rid of that tab, but I'll definitely, 100% watch it later. (That is a lie. I'll go through my favourites maybe once a year and go, 'Huh, this sounds interesting' Opens the vid, watches halfway, pauses... and then the cycle starts all over again...)

I remember occasionally seeing Patterrz comments under some shorts and then suddenly none, bummer Duolingo removed discussion feature

Shorts are neat for trivia tidbits or super fast short info, but honestly I don't log in to KZread for shorts, I log in for medium to long form content, shorts are a funny-coincidence watch, never my actual objective of consumption

Actually from my experience, the KZread app only opens with the shorts tab if the last thing you watched before closing the app was a short

The randomly ended up on Shorts thing literally happened to me today

If I have my phone on youtube connected to the roku, watching a short automatically disconnects them so the short only plays on my phone.

I'm guilty of repeatedly watching one specific short when I happen to see it on my feed... Jack Black playing a sax-o-boom on the Tonight Show.

While I have fallen into the endless death scroll on KZread Shorts a few times, I generally don't watch more than a few at a time, and I am watching them less and less, simply because it's not a format that I enjoy. I wouldn't be surprised if I started ignoring them completely and went back to viewing strictly long-form content.

I "watch" KZread while I work and do other stuff - and as in "watch", I mean listen to 30+ minute videos. It could literally just be the audio of someone talking with a static background, and I'd still click on the video. I don't wanna find a new video every 5-10 minutes and have to stop doing whatever I am doing. Short videos are just too much work to watch. Which is ironic, because they're meant to be quick, easily consumable garbage.

I've only looked at my Following page on TikTok. I only watch the creators I like rather than whatever the algorithm shows me.

The only KZread shorts I watch are animal/parrot videos and clips from gameplay channels I already watch. Although I did discover a Skyrim play through I can watch while drawing through them so that’s something.

It will put you in the shorts feed only if you closed the app with the shorts being the last thing being on the screen, if that makes sense.

i'm just replying while watching, and at around 27 minutes in, what's funny is i NEVER use the for you when on tiktok. i rarely go on tiktok. i have people i follow on tiktok, and i specifically go to my following list page and individually click on creators and just watch theirs. lol

I caught tiktok when it was fairly unknow. A college of mine did videos and wanted me to subscribe. She said tiktok would blow up soon enough, and it did. I didn't stay for long because it was affecting my studies and most of the videos recommended didn't mean anything to me, I was just wasting time. So I deleted the app and never looked back.

Also with the difference between tick tok and u tube is that Tick tok is owned by a Chinese company which in that region of the world they want u mainly to be loyal to the company not the creator. While u tube is USA based and because of the unique nature of the continent that is north America being loyal to ur favourite creator is what u tube strives for especially in its earlier years. This is like the 3rd time I've watched this vid that matpat did so I thought I should at least talk about what me and my mum discussed while watching the vid.

To be honest, I think KZread shorts have become an active viewing unlike what's described here for tiktok. At least for me. Maybe it's the working algorithm but I got many short-tubers that are re-recommended all the time and I sub too eventually. And honestly if they do it right, like viva la dirt league, I do go find the long form. Well I would eventually, but shorts act as an ad for it.

I have to agree with MatPat recently I’ve gotten way more shorts then long videos and one of my favorite KZreadrs has way to many shorts that I miss her long videos it feels like more short videos then I can handle I like listening to my favorite KZreadrs talking and showing the same passion I have it makes me enjoy KZread but with KZread shorts and TikTok shorts are too much everything MatPat says I can agree with

i'd consider you a mid high size youtuber, because you are closer to 1m subs; and a mid size is like 500k or smaller. then 100k small mid size 10k or smaller is the small youtuber. this is the general analysis, and there is even more subset of different youtubers sizes if you'd like to get into the nitty gritty of it all

The TikTokers I follow are all only English and Japanese Voice Actors or KZreadrs. If you asked me to name 5 TikTokers, I could only name you 2, just because they showed up on TV. Charli D'Amelio and Sorelle. Thanks to Dancing with the Stars and The Voice.

A small streamer I watch on twitch (who now ofc does it on yt as well because they can) who keeps asking why his uploads get nowhere near the amount that the shorts get. If I had to guess... it's from people fingering through shorts. I get a bunch of shorts thrown in with content that I have zero interest in... but even just flipping past it counts as a view. You actually have to manually click on a video. If your shit isn't interesting or worth watching, people aren't gonna watch it. (I can safely say that it's bad because I know he isn't a viewer of yours. Yeah. It's really boring. I just feel bad for the poor sod, so I keep "watching" the streams... but its uninteresting and unimaginative content in shorts and videos, that wont get views.) KZread and disney+ are basically the only content I consume other than twitch... but twitch is kind of a passive thing that I have on my other monitor while I'm playing a game, which I can't do with videos/movies.

Is this why I was asked to stop, because people don't like shorts? I mentioned that at the top of video, by the end I'll add on YT should code to work better with Opera for long form to be great. I leave a long video on pause and am tabbed somewhere for a few minutes, come back to that video and it shot backward anywhere from 5-60 minutes. If there are a bunch of creators who get sponsored by Opera, shouldn't it work better within the browsers features?

I don't watch shorts, tictok, youtube short, whatever. I don't watch it. They are uninteresting, boring, and just too short for any actual information being useful.

If you really want to learn a language, get a native speaker to teach you.
